Product Description

Himalayan Red rice has been grown in south central Asia for many centuries. The rice paddies located in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains produce the most aromatic red rice. Similar in shape to brown rice but with a deep rosy color, red rice contains more of the natural bran than white rice. For this reason, red rice requires a longer cooking time and has a nuttier more complex flavor. Usage: Rinse well. 1 cup rice, 2 cups water 1/4tsp salt, bring to boil, reduce heat simmer on low covered for 40 min. The firm and hearty texture of Red Rice is perfect for Rice Salads and Rice Pilaf dishes. The full shape and rosy color make it a wonderful choice for meals show casing rice. It goes remarkably well with steamed vegetables, grilled fish and light meats. Combine Red Rice with White Rice for textural and visual interest.

This rice is a little tricky at first due to thicker bran. Once you figure the right amount of water and time (about 45-60 mins) they turn out great. You can time them tight and have fun chewing them or let them puff out a bit for a more cloudy rice. The taste is great...I eat them by themselves with vegetables or they work good in burritos or Mexi-style dishes as well. Recommended.

My husband and I love this rice. It is nutty as another reviewer mentioned. I like it because it is so different from regular brown or white rice. When I cook it, I use my rice cooker on the brown rice setting - and then add just a little bit of extra water, and it comes out perfectly. We often put it with stroganoff, but we also like it with butter, salt, and pepper.

This rice is so yummy! I threw a cup in the bottom of the baking dish, added broccoli and water, then put a few chicken breasts on top and baked for an hour. I just ordered more because it has become a new part of my healthy eating plan!

My hubby loves this and it's a nice variation on the rice theme...makes a colorful plate, and darker foods are more healthy. Cooks quicker than brown rice.

It takes a while to cook but is worth the wait. I love trying rice other than the standard white and brown. I will continue to keep this in the kitchen.

I cooked the rice on the 'brown' setting on my rice cooker, and it came out perfect. The only thing that I will say is that I think it's quite expensive, so I'll look for it at the supermarket.

Although it takes a little longer to cook (about 55 min) than regular rice, the nutty flavor and great texture is worth every minute.

Very good rice - fun too. It is between the texture of white rice and wild rice. We like it.
