I bought this DVD set back in April and it is currently mid June. I've gone through the entire 30 day program (and then some) and in the first month I lost 15 pounds and 5 inches total (2" off waist, 1" off hips, 1" off each thigh). I have since lost a total of 27 pounds and at least 8 inches from doing this DVD set, bike riding, and most importantly eating at a calorie deficit. Remember what you eat is more important than your activity. However this DVD set was the perfect thing to get me off the couch, get my heart pumping, and ultimately get me to love exercising which I NEVER thought would be possible. The music has a good beat and Shaun T has an incredible personality. Honestly without him I don't know if I would have stuck with it for as long as I did. I'm not horribly coordinated but I was able to keep up with the routines really well after the first time through. Don't get discouraged, because it takes everyone some time to learn dance-type steps.
I absolutely loved that it came with a tape measure and a card to track your measurements. I also took their suggestion and took Before photos and will continue to take progress photos on the 1st of every month. These are very valuable tools and everybody should do it!
Fat Burning Cardio: This 30 minute routine is a lot of fun. It gets your heart pumping and keeps you moving constantly. I suggest doing the high impact versions of the moves as soon as you can, but there is a low impact version for many of them. For me, this routine got a little stale after the first couple weeks since you do it so much during the program. After I got comfortable, I started holding 1 lb weights for the duration of the routine for a little extra challenge. Now I am thinking about bumping that up to 2 lb.
Ab Sculpt: This is 24 minutes and more intense. It focuses more on ab work and has you do some ab exercises on the floor. At first it was tough for me, but after several runs it got easier and eventually I was rocking it.
Total Body Burn: This is about 42 minutes and it's much more intense than the first two. It puts a greater focus on weights and I highly suggest you always use weights when he tells you to. I use 3lb dumbbells and eventually will move to 5lb. For me, this routine is a great combination of cardio and strength training and it is my go-to routine since I have finished the 30 day program. This is by far my favorite and I'm always excited to get started when I pop the DVD in! I really love the 3-Tier Squats at the beginning, and I really have noticed a change in the shape of my butt.
Hips, Buns, and Thighs: For me, this video was the hardest. I have a desk job and while I do go for walks on my lunch every day in my hilly office park, my legs aren't the strongest so this video is still tough for me. It works your lower half REALLY well and you will feel the burn.
This DVD isn't going to guarantee that you have rock-hard abs after only a month, but it's an EXCELLENT resource for getting you to be active and if you stick with it and do things right, you will see results. It worked for me and still is! I have 35 pounds to lose til I am at my goal weight, and Hip Hop Abs will be with me every step of the way.
4 stars because I would have liked to see a greater emphasis on weights.
