Following on the wildly successful and multiple award winning film, "The Real Dirt on Farmer John," Farmer John Peterson introduces us to his new cookbook, "The Real Dirt on Vegetables." In this episode we're so glad to spend time with Farmer John Peterson, interviewing him about his life, his movie and cookbook, and to discover all of the passion that makes this eccentric, mid-western Farmer tick. We explore the Dante-like journey John Peterson takes from his childhood, up through the crazy 1960's, into the dark ages of American farming in the early 1980's, leading all the way up to a complete resurrection when he began to grow food organically and became part of Community Supported Agriculture. Then the Hippy Gourmet goesin the kitchen and whips up a few beautiful recipes, The first recipe is a Celeriac Remoulade, which is essentially a cole slaw like salad made from the root of the celery stalk. The second recipe is Roasted Potatoes with a Kale and Walnut Pesto, comprised of par boiled red potatoes, roasted to perfection with herbs and spices and then drizzled with the Kale Pesto on top! To complete the full meal, Bruce also whips up some Wilted Greens and Veggies, using some beautiful fresh Basil to bring the whole dish over the top! In this show we're also really blessed to have a visit with Leslie Littlefield, as she sings a few of her songs from the film and her album 'little songs.'
