From Booklist

Fatima Mayo realizes that it's time to start dating again, several years after the untimely death of her husband. She is still in her twenties, and this lovely, urban black woman has a lot of living left to do. Fatima enlists her best girlfriend's help, but after a failed online date and a professional fix up, she decides no one will ever come close to what she had with her husband. So, in a bold move, Fatima decides to not only list the requirements she has for the perfect man but also write a script detailing how he should behave in every conceivable situation. Several actors audition for the part, and she makes her selection. Has she come up with a realistic solution to the dismal dating scene? What is she to do with the feelings she develops for her "boyfriend"? Are they real if he is not? Dow presents an interesting conundrum wrapped in a hip contemporary story. Maria Hatton

In Hire Love by Candice Dow, Fatima Mayo is faced with dealing with the premature death of her husband while trying to resume her regular life. With a little help from her friend Mya, she decides to re-enter the dating arena which turns out to be harder than she expected. After failed attemps with a dating service, Fatima decides to compose a script of the perfect mate and hold auditions for the perfect companion.

Rashad Watkins is chasing down his dream of becoming an actor when he encounters Fatima's ad. He figures that this could be his big break and decides that he will give this role everything he has. Rashad quickly finds himself taken with Fatima and soon the lines between acting and real life become blurred.Faster than either realize, they are both caught in feelings that neither can claim or deny and Fatima has to decide: is it real or is he acting?

I totally enjoyed this book by Ms. Dow. The characters came to life and actually made me wonder if something like this could actually be pulled off! LOL! I look forward to her next release.

Fatima Mayo is beautiful, successful, and happily married but her life is forever changed when her beloved husband dies of an heart attack at age 32. Devastated, 3 years go by before Fatima decides it's time to start dating again. But Fatima is in a rude awakening, used to being treated like a queen, she quickly finds out dating is NOT what it used to be. Along with her best friend Mya, Fatima decides to write the script for a "perfect" relationship and hire an actor to play the role. Rashad is a struggling actor determined to make it big, when he decides to audition for the role of Fatima's boyfriend, he thinks it's an easy job with easy money. Rashad and Fatima don't count on the sparks that fly between them and soon what starts off as make-believe begins to turn into something real. Fatima and Rashad soon learn when it comes to love, there is no such thing as a perfect "script". While A Hire Love by Candice Dow is different from her previous novels, it is a sweet, romantic story that is sure to entertain readers. Reviewed by Shay C of PeoplewholoveGoodBooks.

This is my first read from this author, and I have to say it was really good. The plot was very original, I haven't read anything similar to this, so that automatically set this book above the rest. Fatima writing her script of the perfect man, and then hiring an actor to act it and be her companion was just priceless. I loved the chemistry between Fatima and Rashad. It felt real, and not just made for a book. Their dating process, other than the times Fatima was on her high horse felt like what everyday couples go through, so I have to commend the author on the realness of these characters. The only thing I didn't like were the love scenes. There were really no descriptions at all. Just they had sex and that was about it. If there were descriptive details in the love scenes this would have been a 5 star read for me, but the storyline really made up for it.

After the sudden death of her husband, editor Fatima Mayo throws herself into her work. Three years later, she realizes mourning time is over, she's still young and she needs to get out in the dating field again. After a few mishaps, she decides she's going to create the man she wants to avoid all the drama and problems found when meeting men. Her best friend Mya is a casting director, so what better way to find the man you want than to write a script for him and hire him to play your man? They do just that and Rashad, the man cast in the position, is everything Fatima wants and more; yet she doesn't know if he's doing what she paid him to do (act) or if he truly has feelings for her.

A HIRE LOVE, written by Candice Dow, is a comical romp through the sometimes not so wonderful world of dating. While I laughed at the idea of writing a script as a new means to getting a man, I love how Dow added this fresh look to an often told storyline. The characters were refreshing to read and I absolutely loved her best friend. It was as if they were all members of my own private friendship circle. I also liked the script Fatima created and how Rashad expanded on parts of it and opened her eyes to things she hadn't experienced before; things beyond what she expected. The lessons of love and heartache come through clearly in A HIRE LOVE and I'd definitely recommend this read to those who like romantic stories with a bit of comedy thrown in.

This was such a cute and feel good story! I love Candice's style of writing and her humor. My only criticism of this book is the ending. Although I loved the way the story ended, it was too abrupt of an ending. I think this book should have had a more detailed conclusion. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, I just didn't want it to end. I would have loved to have had about 2 more scenes to show more development to the ending of the story. I kept checking my book to see if some of the chapters were mistakenly left out at the end. I was thinking man, please don't tell me this book is about to end right now! I loved the characters Rashad and Fatima. I couldn't put the book down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. You should definitely read this book if you are looking for a really cute romance story. Good job Candice and please keep the stories coming.
