I enjoyed the story, it was really engaging and I scared it down in one evening. The only issue I had though was the lack of world building. Maybe it's because I'm newer to the omegaverse genre, but there was nothing explaining how the world got to the way it was in the story. I expected them to be werewolves for the vast majority of it. But no, they're just humans with some differences to fit into the genre. I must prefer shifter books then, because the reasoning for their behavior and abilities is there. For humans though, what made them into "omegaverse" humans? From average people to ones with biological hierarchy, knots, pair bonds, etc?

World building aside, the story flowed easily and ended in a perfect HEA.

Now this was a unique take on omegaverse. Typically the alphas are in charge and the omegas locked away but here it’s the opposite. Alphas are locked away and omegas hold the power.

There were a lot of smexy scenes and I liked the chemistry between them, but it felt like it dragged on for too long. Its shown that Sandra is a smart lady, but after Austin helps her through her heat, it feels like she loses her common sense. If bonding is a thing, why did nobody think that was happening between them given their symptoms, especially in The Haven, where they have probably encountered it a lot?

Even after Sandra found out they had been partially bonded, she sort of sat on it for too long before she thought to reach out to Austin. The whole reason alphas are kept under such strict control is because of how they have explosive anger, and I'm pretty sure they mentioned how bonding affects their anger, so it seemed really irresponsible to not let people know this was happening. I liked that she wanted to change things and was actually doing something about it, she didn't just complain and hope that someone else changed alphas lives.

But it felt like most of the book they were apart and were just remembering the other one. Basically they didn't spend a lot of time together that wasn't part of her heat. The sneak peek to the next book looks interesting, so maybe I'll give it a try because I do typically like this author. I guess this just wasn't my story.

A different take on this world

All the other books in the omegaverse I've read has shown the h as the oppressed and the H as a rich and well connected man. This time, it's the other way around. The H is still an Alpha but they are not treated as top of the food chain, but as the lowest of them all. It felt a little uncomfortable in the beginning to see the Alpha as such, it kind of felt wrong, but the story is well written and kept things interesting. I have given it 4 stars. It could have been a 5 star story, but for me it is very annoying when the h suddenly turns stupid and makes really poor decisions when it could have been written a different way. All in all a different and very good story.

Interesting story for ABO/Omegaverse

I don't usually care for omegaverse stuff, i.e. alphas seeking and servicing omegas in heat, ruts, knots, etc. I was able to look past that for this story because it was interesting.

(Spoilers, probably.)

The Omega, Sandra, goes to a service for a stud to service her through her heat for the first time. The scenes with Austin are hot and made me actually enjoy an alpha for once. He was written well and Sandra's draw to him was understandable. I loved the dystopian-ness to it, where the world is run by the beta majority and omegas are free to do whatever, but alphas are subjugated for a few unmated ones being menaces around omegas in heat. Betas were finally FED UP, I guess, which is kind of funny and sad. I wish that Sandra hadn't been so reluctant to go back to Austin when she was clearly in pain without him. And I really felt his pain of having one unfortunate thing after another dumped on him. All of the scenes with them apart had me mentally screaming! I did end up skimming some of Sandra's parts, because a girl can only take so much of her being wishy washy about checking on him even after she's told about the bond.

This story was so cute, unique, and steamy. I don't think I have read a book where alphas were on the outs so it was quite a different take than I'm used to, not in a bad way though. Although I did feel bad for the alphas . in this Sandra decides to use a service for her oncoming heat and well like the blurb says, things kind of spiral from there. So if your looking for a steamy, basically Insta love knotty romance with a tad bit of angst thrown in, then this is the book for u.

The first book in 'The Hired Series' features Sandra, an omega who has worked hard to become a successful architectural designer and has finally decided that, having either used betas or be locked away during her heat, that she is ready - both in her personal and professional life - to try to be tended by an Alpha. She goes to The Haven, but is disappointed in the selection until she meets Austin. Despite the safeguards, a partial bond is formed during Sandra's heat, but Austin's reaction causes him to lose his temper and he is moved away from The Haven leaving Sandra desperate to find him and to see if they want to make the bond permanent despite the restrictions Alphas are under.
As in all of her books, Ryans creates a believable and recognisable other-world with characters who engage the sympathy of her readers.
This is a loving and passionate story, and the tension created by the obstacles put in the way of these two make it almost like a thriller. Austin and Sandra learn so much about one another and he makes her realise she was right about how wrong is the way Alphas are treated, and she plans to make efforts to correct this.

Usually omegas don’t have and rights or power well in this authors omegaverse that is totally flipped on it’s head, alphas have no rights and it’s so refreshing. Love this series! It’s about a world where people have three dynamics: Alpha, Beta and Omega. Much like every other Omegaverse, Alphas and Omegas are attracted to each other and make the best couples. Unlike other Omegaverse books though, in this world Betas rule and they’ve determined that Alphas are dangerous and have to be put into camps and closely monitored.

One such camp is called Haven, where well-behaved, educated Alphas have the privilege of going. There they are called “studs” and their sole purpose is to tend to an Omega in heat. In this book Sandra, a very successful architect who happens to be an omega, decides to hire Austin as a stud. It was VERY hot 🥵

It’s a really interesting take on the Omegaverse, which tends to be more misogynistic, where Alphas rule and it’s the omegas who are at the bottom of the food chain. I’m really enjoying this series and I hope it’s an ongoing one!
