Our main leads cannot play well off of each other to the bitter end. Heroine comes off at first as this newly emancipated (barely) woman; I didnt hate that, I thought it was a great concept to have- show variety and depth, have her mature as we read throughout. Didn't happen. She wobbles more than a penguin, is more talk than action, and has a penchant for always running from her problems and expecting others to clean house. The hero's this stereotypical tough guy with a tragic past and unstable state of mind. He's not unique, which wouldnt be bad if he could just be likeable for five minutes! Does he show growth? Like an inch. He's overbearing, condescending and has a self-persecution complex like you wouldn't believe, though I think he might also have a savior one as well.
And then we have the plot. The author had a lot of strong, fleshed out ideas on how to advance the drama. The problem is braiding them seamlessly without giving someone a headache. The concept originally shown in the beginning is nice- nothing new or untried, but reliable and interesting to approach. And if you add a few original turmoils, you can make it your own. This author upended the payload into this plot soup, stirred vigorously with the drama stick and let simmer. I could barely finish one turmoil before our hero/ine was caught in another one. It was kind of dizzying.
It's not bad to have a reprieve from each major plot point, and this author continuously throws her characters to the slaughter (so to speak) in terms of conflict. Stories often have two turns, the climax (or twist) and them the smaller steep (not in any particular order). This had about six twists, and everyone who was relevant was never really explained, save a few -Scarlett, Noah and Christa. But who is Grace? How personally attached was Knox to Claire? What's with Dante? Not much of this is answered.
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Type: Stand alone, but there are some released bonus chapters. I wouldn't mind reading more about these characters in series form!
Recommendation: Yes! I actually really liked this book.
Price: Good. It is available on Kindle Unlimited or $5.31 to purchase.
Summary: - multiple/confusing POV + intriguing dynamic between Noah and Scarlett + strong alpha male + continuous action -rushed last chapter +original ideas -trigger topics
The first thing that caught my eye about His To Claim is the blurb. Most shifter books contain stories about mates that are absolute and there is never a happy ending if the characters lose their one true love. This book offers more. New and unique, His To Claim, features Scarlett, a girl who survives the unimaginable: being rejected by the only person who is supposed to love her without hesitation. The twin to her soul. Not only is she rejected by her mate, the wolf in question then becomes alpha and pretty much refuses to leave her alone even though he chose someone else! Total crap right?
His To Claim is told from multiple point of views. Most are easily recognizable but when they suddenly switch to lesser known characters and even one that is never mentioned before previously it gets confusing. I actually took a minute to stop and go wait... did I miss her? Did I speed read over the chapter that mentioned her? With that being said, the writing is otherwise well done and clear. Charlotte and Noah area both very complex and react consistently to their surroundings. The world building is descriptive and the action is continuous. There could definitely be more back story for the antagonist and his posse. I was a little unclear about his motives throughout the stories progression.
This book is definitely for 18+. It has some trigger scenes that are for mature eyes only. I really enjoyed the ending despite it feeling rushed.
There are a few bonus chapters available but no sequel. Let's hope the author feels inspired to write another one!
Disclaimer: I obtained this book from Kindle Unlimited and volunteered to write a review.
An exceptional complex shifter/paranormal type romance that I couldn’t put down.
Scarlett has had the unthinkable happen to her, she has been rejected by her soulmate. Her destined mate, David publicly gave up his claim to her and bonded with another leaving Scarlett with a choice, either die or learn to live with constant ache and longing in her heart. She chooses life and decides to leave her pack and never return.
While on the run she crashes into Noah, a powerful alpha wolf who is busy fighting a war against rogue wolfs that are determined to destroy the traditional shifter way of life. Noah isn’t interested in forming any kind of relationship with a wolf after losing his bond mate and Scarlett has no intention of ever allowing a man to have power over her life and happiness.
What Scarlett and Noah don’t know is the Goddess has given them another chance at love and a different kind of future together. Will they take it? Read, His To Claim to find out. Enjoy!

I have really started to hate the stereotypical snarky " feisty " heroine full of one liners that in real life would grate on everyone's nerves.Read more
