“Ryan not only brings to the table emotionally engaging, multilayered characters, she also writes with great sensitivity about the physical, emotional, and mental toll PTSD can levy on military personnel returning home from active duty, which ultimately makes her heroine’s journey back to the light all the more poignant.” (Booklist (starred review))

Bound by honor and by love…
That’s a Montana Man
Ford Kendrick has often dreamed of the day that Jamie Keller would come home to Montana.
After high school, she needed to leave—and he, duty-bound to rescue his family’s ranch, pushed her to go. The Army made Jamie a hero, but Ford still sees the gorgeous, loving woman who lit up his whole world.
Every day since she left, Jamie has longed for Ford. One glimpse confirms it: the sexy, dangerous-looking cowboy left a hole in her heart that nothing else can fill. Yet the battle scars she bears—inside and out—won’t let her trust anyone enough to get close.
Ford wants to bring Jamie back to the life they dreamed of building. But locked somewhere in her memories is a dark truth that threatens her safety. It’s a battle Ford won’t let her fight alone, not when he’s determined to keep her by his side, now and always . . .

Ford is an extremely likeable hero... everything you would want a man, a boyfriend or a husband to be. He is protective but encourages Jamie to stand on her own and face her demons... especially the ones she can't remember about her attack that leave a big dark hole she can't get past. They seem to be making progress until someone from the past shows up and the guy is bad news in more ways than one.
Ford's devotion to Jamie is absolute and he is convinced that once she recovers they can have the life together they always wanted. It's a wonderful Western romance with everything that makes Ryan's storytelling so rich... compelling, well drawn characters, a believable plot, engaging dialogue, suspense and of course a hard fought for happily ever after. All in all another winner in a great series by a great author.
I realize how serious and troubling PTSD is, but I don't want to read an entire novel about it. I read for entertainment and this novel did not entertain me in the least. I bought the book through Amazon, apparently without first reading about the storyline, simply because Jennifer Ryan wrote it. From now on, I'll be a lot more careful before I purchase one of her novels. Most of her books I read as eBooks (if they were cheap enough; I refuse to overpay for an eBook). The local library didn't even carry any of her books and we're in the Los Angeles County library system, which is huge.
Yes, I was disappointed in this very dreary book. And like another reviewer commented, the middle of the book just dragged and dragged and dragged.
It was deep and I'm not sure there is another man alive that loved a woman more unconditionally. She camme home from war bruised and scared a d the love of Ford and patience brought her back to life, along with meeting her demons head on.
Great series please I can't put it all into words.
Jennifer Ryan's Montana men series are wonderful. I have loved every book she has written.

This one was the best as I live close to a military base and this book gave me a greater understanding of PTSD.
