    I love this show for the reason stated in the title. Most modern shows and movies that are based on a book or a series of books completely butcher the source material, which I find infuriating, but HBO's His Dark Materials is a rare exception to that trend. It's like my mental images from the books came to life on screen and nothing stupid or cheesy got shoehorned into it. Everything about this show is top notch: the acting, casting, writing, special effects, etc. Bravo!

It's fun watching children grow up in movies. I read the books long enough ago that differences between them and this trilogy were not disturbing as they often are. And the animatronics were wonderful.
