Randolph established himself as the most respected political journalist of his generation, the first to warn the world, in 1932, that the rise of Hitler to power in Germany would mean war with England. He was also the only journalist to predict the election of Harold Macmillan in the 1954 leadership contest. Although possessed of an atrocious temper, he had a generous nature and was fiercely loyal to his friends: for example, when the Profumos were being deserted by many others, Randolph granted them sanctuary from the world's press at his Suffolk home. He was the author of the first two volumes of his father's biography, and the Kennedy family, who were close friends, invited him to write the official biography of President Kennedy, an endeavour prevented only by his premature death on D-Day, 6 June 1968.
In this filial yet objective biography Winston S. Churchill explains what it was like for Randolph to live his life as the son of the greatest political figure of the twentieth century.

About the author

Winston S. Churchill (1874-1965) has been called 'the greatest Briton'. An international statesman, orator, biographer, historian, author and Nobel Prize winner, his works remain in print with the world's leading publishers.
Educated at Harrow and Sandhurst, Winston spent several years in the army before becoming a newspaper correspondent and then an MP. His cabinet positions included First Lord of the Admiralty at the outbreak of the First World War and later Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Churchill became Prime Minister in 1940 and for five years led Britain though its 'finest hour'. Defeated in the July 1945 election, he was Leader of the Opposition until re-elected Prime Minister in 1951. He was knighted in 1953, the same year he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. He stepped down as Prime Minister in 1955 and remained an MP until 1964.

It covers Randolph's early life; his extraordinary experiences during the War, from a dramatic commando raid in North Africa to a mission in Tito's Yugoslavia; and a recurrent theme in the life of this forgotten genius: his literary output, especially as a journalist, in which profession he reported the very beginnings of the Nazi's rise to power, the Suez War and the Six Day war -- all of which are very interesting; and of course, the famous biography which he wrote himself of his great father. Sadly he died before completing it.
It is certainly a worthy read.
