The story itself had great, unrealized promise. I normally give books with this many errors either a single star (so I can note the problems) or a total pass if there is no redeeming factor to it. But this book was like a first rough draft ready to be fleshed out into a complete book. There were a lot of opportunities to expand on the character development. Having said that, I liked the characters and only felt that some of the development that did exist was unexplained or the explanation was too pat or trite.
Fortunately for the author, I will not buy more of her books. But this short story, if rewritten into a full book and EDITED could be a real winner.
Overall, though, it was a solid short book that stands alone, but also serves as the introduction to the author's new series about this family. It was well written and well edited. There are some sexual scenes and profanity, but nothing terribly graphic.
I would give 3 1/2 stars.
Heat factor moderate.
Sera Calhoun is a fashion major at college and almost home to her dad and step family for Thanksgiving. Since she bailed at the altar of her wedding, and left college with just 3 credits to get she was looking forward to the grant that the Black Ventures Company was offering.
Her blog was her success now. The story also follows Dane Anderson-Sera's step brother. He works for Harrison Black, giving him direction on which charity to support.
They do get to know one another a little better as she's there at the same house, helping his mother and blogging waiting to hear if she'll be accepted. Liked hearing of the canal-that was one place we didn't travel to when we were in Las Vegas.
They do become close at times but separate all the same. Loved hearing of her business plans.
In time they all learn some important facts and it could be the miracle they all need. Author's other works are highlighted at the end.
I received this book from the author via Booklikes Blog Contest.
