This has been a compelling series about heroine's who learn how to overcome the unimaginable hell that they've been through, how to use the immense strength inside of them, and how to love and live again. The hero's are all loving, caring, passionate men that are also damaged in their own way, and they fall hard for these amazing women. It may not be immediately, and sometimes even reluctantly, but they're willing to risk it all to protect the women they love.
Luc and Abby have both been damaged by their pasts, and although Luc has gotten away from those who have hurt him, Abby is still living in her nightmare, even though it doesn't seem like one most of the time, yet. When Abby finally decides that it's up to her to get the help a friend of hers needs, she goes to Luc hoping that he'll give her a job so she can afford to pay for the medical care needed. Luc doesn't like being around others, but he doesn't mind having Abby around, and even though she won't talk about it, he knows that something isn't right at his neighbors place where she's from.
When Abby realizes that others know she's been sneaking out of the compound, she tries to get away with her friend, but can't. When her friend shows up at Luc's without Abby, Luc knows that something happened, and she could be in trouble, especially when an armed group shows up to get the boy. Without proof, and with the winter storm hitting their small town, there's nothing he can do but wait. When Luc finds Abby half frozen in the snow, bloody and non-responsive, wearing only a thin nightgown, he's scared that he's going to loose her, and realizes that he cares for her a lot more than he thought possible.
When things go from bad to worse, Luc knows that he has to get help for Abby, and for her friend who is still inside the compound. Can Luc and Abby's new friends convince her to allow the sheriff to help her get her friend out safely? Will Luc and Abby break their promises to one another, and try to rescue her friend on their own? With all of the threats and danger to Abby, as well as everyone else in the compound, will they be able to get her friend out, and keep them all safe? Although they only had a short time together, will the bond between Luc and Abby be strong enough to pull them back together? Will either of them get the HEA that they both deserve? You're going to have to read this to find out! You won't be disappointed!
This has been a fantastic series, and it's one that I suggest that you start from the beginning. Each story is a stand alone book. They all take place in the same small town, have some overlapping characters, but it's not necessary to read the previous one's to understand the others.
I strongly recommend this book, series, and outstanding author!

Abby has to learn about the outside world at a rapid pace as she has been stifled and cut off from normal society. The little interaction she and the other women have had with the small North Carolina town down the mountain has been carefully controlled by their leader, Isaiah. Abby desperately wants to get herself and someone she cares for away from the cult knowing the wrong moves could be catastrophic for those women and children who live there as well. Her strong determination and bravery despite the odds and her growing affection for the quiet, tough man who seems to be fighting his own demons makes for a compelling story. Abby and Luc’s relationship blossoms as they work together not only on his land, but to overcome the obstacles which stem from fighting against the controlling cult bordering his property.
Abby and Luc’s personal struggles will draw you in as well as their heartfelt relationship that makes the reader want these two wounded people to fall in that deep well of love which heals and protects. The scars which mark them both physically and emotionally are emblematic of the harshness of life, but also badges of courage showing their strength to not only endure, but thrive. Together Abby and Luc can put aside their pain to experience love, hope, and joy where none existed before they found each other. The depth, passion, and quality of Ms. Ander’s writing imbues this story with much to be reckoned taking the reader on a journey in quite a passionate and well-wrought tale.
