< QUOTE > As if they were connected by an invisible wire, she could feel when he watched her. And he watched her often.
And it should have worked. Lynda Chance has a delightful writing style, so many lines and quotes leapt out at me, sucking me in and helping me to identify quickly and easily with the heroine.
< QUOTE > She usually kept ramen noodles, microwave popcorn and cups of macaroni and cheese for such occasions. The problem was, she had been having a lot of such occasions lately. Her drawer was depressingly empty.
I wanted this to work. Jenna, a lowly accountant in David's firm, overhears a conversation in the kitchen:
< QUOTE > She heard the door shut, the shuffle of feet and an irritated male voice. "Goddammit, let it go. What the heck am I supposed to do, post a job opening for a wife?"
... Before she could stop herself, she heard the words that impetuously popped from her mouth. "Do I apply in HR?"
But I hated David.
< QUOTE> She looked at the handsome blond because he was infinitely the less dangerous of the two.
Rude to the point of being obnoxious, he wasn't so much an Alpha as a Jerk! He took her to dinner, took her to bed and then to Vegas the next day to get married. He promises to pay her a large amount of money to stay married for two years and Jenna, saddled with a massive debt from college, reluctantly agrees.
He pushed Jenna around, refused to listen to her and gave her no reason at all to like him - and then suddenly he declares he's in love and like magic, she is too. Sorry, but I just don't buy it. 3/5 - only because of the excellent quality of the actual writing.
Alpha is dominant to the point of railroading heroine at first until He gets a ring on her ring, and then she agrees to make their temporary marriage permanent. Then H works to keep heroine happy and is Totally into her. Still dominant and forceful, of course. The entire book takes place over a five week period. H wants the heroine, seizes an albeit lame opportunity that presents itself. H push, push, pushes to get what he wants and the heroine is a nice young girl, so goes along to a point. Yes, somewhat submissive, but not totally without backbone. The story was told from both POV, but even when being told from h's perspective, you generally know what the H is thinking. Either it is obvious by his actions or his blunt speech. Sadly, no jealous scenes, but just thinking of him in that situation is hot.
If you don't like cussing, aggressive, dominant, ALPHA males, this book is not for you. I really loved up this book, not entirely sure why!
Jenna is a 24 year old college graduate who lied to obtain a mediocre job in accounting, she's got a mountain of debt and is eating ramen noodles to survive, she finds herself in a sticky situation when she overhears a tall good looking blond tell his friend he needs a wife, when she jokingly responds, she's horrified to find out who the friend is... the very man that she avoids at all costs, her boss and the man that runs the company.
David has been lusting after Jenna's hourglass figure since she started, but has kept his distance due to her being an employee... once he sees an opening he isn't going to let the opportunity pass him by.
The fact is this book is pure fantasy... it's not realistic, but I can't help loving an alpha who goes after what he wants and the fact that our heroine isn't a lithe little thing makes it even better, and so that's why the book worked for me.
In real life this man would be slapped with lawsuits and sexual harrassment cases up the wazzoo... but for a short time, I let myself fall into the fantasy and I enjoyed it.

at all. He was borderline abusive. Could not warm up or feel the characters.
