A Love Story Amid Life's Greatest Battle

His Name is Eric is a tribute to love, courage, and hope when conventional medicine fails to provide the desired results. This deeply moving story chronicles the journey of soulmates Phillipa and Eric, faced with the unthinkable: a stage-four cancer diagnosis that upends their lives.

This gripping and deeply personal story follows Phillipa and Eric as they courageously face:

  • The emotional, physical, and mental toll of cancer and the limitations of traditional treatments.
  • A life-changing decision to explore holistic and alternative healing methods, eventually leading them to a clinic in Mexico offering a functional medicine approach.
  • An eye-opening exploration of integrative therapies, sparking questions about how we can balance Western medicine with natural alternatives.

Hi Name is Eric is more than a memoir--it's a reminder that healing is not one-size-fits-all. Phillipa and Eric's journey will inspire you to seek, question, and advocate for your own health, empowering you to take control of your wellness story.

I just finished reading this deeply moving and beautifully written book about your husband's journey through cancer, and I want to thank you for sharing such a personal part of your life with the world. Your words carry such grace, honesty, and strength—it’s clear this was written from the heart, and every page reflects the love you had for him.

Having also lost my own husband to cancer, I found myself connecting with your story in unexpected ways, even though our journeys were very different. That’s the power of your writing—it honors your unique experience while creating space for others to reflect on their own. There were moments that brought me to tears, and others that offered comfort in knowing I’m not alone in this kind of grief.

What stood out most was the way you captured the small, quiet moments—the ones that often go unnoticed but carry the deepest meaning. You didn't shy away from the hard parts, and that honesty made the beauty shine even more.

This book isn’t just about loss—it’s about love, resilience, and the complexity of walking through something no one ever prepares you for. I’m grateful for it, and I know it will touch many hearts just as it touched mine.

Phillipa Leseberg’s memoir, His Name Is Eric, is not just a breathtakingly beautiful love story; it is a raw and poignant account of a couple’s fight against stage 4 cancer. Through Leseberg’s powerful and evocative prose, readers are transported into her world, where each moment—whether filled with joy, heartbreak, or quiet reflection—feels deeply personal. Her writing, a masterful blend of emotion and vivid imagery, draws us into her and Eric’s journey as they navigate the highs and lows of his diagnosis. With sweet kiwi-isms peppered throughout, Leseberg’s voice feels intimate and authentic, making it impossible not to feel as though we are by their side, swimming in the warm, Hawai’ian waters with dolphins, sitting in sterile hospital rooms enduring the weight of conventional cancer treatments, or walking along the tropical bush-lined paths of the medical center in Mexico where Eric sought alternative treatments.

As a talented writer, Leseberg has a gift for capturing the nuances of their love—a love that is tender, fierce, and enduring even in the face of Eric’s stuggles. Her writing does more than recount their experiences; it brings them to life in such a way that I found myself rejoicing in their shared moments of joy and crying in their moments of pain. Leseberg’s strength and resolve throughout this journey are inspiring, and Eric’s unyielding will to live serves as a testament to his own incredible spirit.

Leseberg’s book is as much a reflection on love as it is on loss, and her candid exploration of her frustration with the modern American medical establishment adds a layer of realism to the narrative, reminding us of the human side of healthcare. Above all, His Name Is Eric begins and ends with LOVE—love for a husband, love for life, and a vow to never forget. By the end of the book, it is impossible not to be moved, and no one who reads this memoir will be able to forget Eric, or the indelible mark he left on those who loved him.

I was fascinated by this book, and knowing a few people with cancer made it feel even more real. The book highlights the disjointed nature of standardized cancer treatments, and as the author points out, “cancer is not a one-size-fits-all” situation. I appreciated the introduction of more alternative treatments and realized it doesn’t have to be one or the other—cancer treatments can encompass both. I also enjoyed the love story thread and can only aspire to have something like what Phillipa and Eric shared. I highly recommend this book.

This a beautifully written story of a couple fighting for more time together against tremendous odds. The love that Phillipa and Eric have for one another is a love we all long for, beautifully documented in Phillipa’s journals as they seek alternative treatment for Eric’s cancer. I couldn’t put it down.

Reading His Name is Eric felt like taking an intimate walk alongside two extraordinary people I hold dear—Phillipa and Eric. Their love story, woven with courage, hope, and unshakable determination, has inspired me in ways I can hardly put into words. I’ve known them both for years, and watching their journey through Eric’s stage-four cancer diagnosis was heart-wrenching, yet filled with such profound beauty. The decision to explore holistic and alternative healing methods, after traditional medicine didn’t provide the answers they were hoping for, is a testament to their unwavering belief in the power of love and the possibility of healing. Their decision to embrace functional medicine, despite the challenges they faced, opened my eyes to the delicate balance between Western and natural approaches to health.

What truly moved me was how Phillipa and Eric never gave up on each other or on the hope that healing was possible, even when it seemed like the odds were against them. While Eric has since transitioned, his spirit and their shared journey continue to inspire me. Their story is a reminder that love transcends time and that there’s always a path forward, even in the face of the most difficult circumstances. His Name is Eric is not just a memoir—it’s a life-changing call to never give up, to seek alternative paths when necessary, and to advocate for our own health stories. This book will leave you with a heart full of hope and a renewed belief in the power of love and healing.
