The following day (SPOILERS) the doctor has a seven year old girl as a patient and he is suspecting that the child is a victim of negligence and abuse. Here comes the nurse to help him out and she starts talking to the little girl. The doctor is staring at the nurse full of admiration for her interaction with the child, while he is thinking about her shapely and soft lips and how perfect they would be around his..... REALLY??? REALLY??? He is in front of a very important, very moving, very sacred and agonizing moment and this extremely good doctor - a victim of severe abuse himself - all he can think of is a bl**job??? Is this a way to make the reader feel attracted and attached and sympathetic towards an MC? by describing him as an insensitive, self centered and heartless creep?
It took me some time to recover and resume reading only because I really wanted to believe that this was a very, very, very unfortunate moment in the story but things were getting worse rapidly. (SPOILERS) The two MCs meet again in private and they start talking about things and then - without building, without escalating passion, without any real connection, even a sexual one - they are having impersonal, clinical sex and even more shockingly unprotected sex because apparently that's what two responsible and knowledgeable medical proffessionals - completely strangers to each other - do! To end the most turn off sex scene I have ever read, someone is knocking at the door, the doctor pulls out, they are getting dressed quickly, they agree to go in different directions when they walk out of the room and maybe they can finish this another time! That's it - no emotion, no acknowledgment of the shared moments, not even a goodbye smile or glance, nothing. I really believe a meeting with a tax officer to talk about taxing would be more interesting and passionate and emotional fullfilling and romantic than this scene.
So, that was the end of my reading adventure with this story. I am really sorry but when I read a romance is to feel something more than what I am feeling when I am reading a medical prescription and I truly believe that sensitive subjects like child abuse, if to be included in a romance or any kind of story, should be done with extreme care, respect and proper research. I DFN and I am going to delete this one from my library.
Evan is a doctor, Tessa is a nurse, both work at the same hospital. The two end up have feelings but are afraid of breaking hospital rules of being together.
This short story was okay. I loved the plot but didn't connect too much with the hero, Evan. He was just bland to me. Now the heroine, Tessa, she was amazing. Strong and capable best describe her.
The two of them needed more connection emotionally. Plus, it wouldn't hurt to have a few more passionate scenes between the two. The title is "His Naughty Nurse" and there really wasn't a whole lot of naughty.
