His Perfect Gift Kindle Edition
Fitzwilliam Darcy is a man torn between choices. Having fled Hertfordshire with the singular goal of separating himself from the fine eyes and pert opinions of Miss Elizabeth Bennet, he finds himself face to face with her in London through a connection he never would have expected. He would like to abandon his reservations and court Miss Elizabeth, but other considerations are holding him back, including his family and friends, who might consider him honour-bound to another.
Following Mr. Bingley’s abrupt departure from Netherfield, Elizabeth Bennet accompanies her sister Jane to London to visit her aunt and uncle. A sudden reunion with the disagreeable Mr. Darcy is not in her plans, but the man she discovers is not the same one who insulted her so grievously at the Meryton Assembly. Instead, a doting brother and amiable gentleman calls upon her in Cheapside.
A quiet Christmas at Gracechurch Street with her aunt and uncle seemed ideal, but the inclusion of Mr. Darcy brings old acquaintances and conflicts neither expected.
Can Mr. Darcy convince his family and friends to choose Elizabeth? Could Elizabeth turn out to be his perfect gift?

I have a couple of issues with the book. One is the way the characters of Darcy and Elizabeth are drawn. Darcy wants Elizabeth, but feels that she's below him in social standing. All it takes is one little hint that Colonel Fitzwilliam thinks he should try to win Elizabeth's good opinion, and that does it, he's a changed man. I don't like this wishy washy Darcy, who lets someone else decide his course - too much like Bingley.
Then there's Elizabeth, who's always experiencing flutterings, and often thinks she might swoon. Way too much like Mrs Bennett to be attractive. She changes her mind about Darcy pretty quickly, and then turns into Lydia as soon as she's got her man. She becomes quite the little coquette for a Regency era maiden. I was missing our beloved Elizabeth who could never be so prissy.
My other issue is with the premise of the story. The major variance of the book focuses on Charles and Caroline Bingley. They're both major villains, trying to force Darcy into marrying Caroline, and the whole situation is completely ludicrous. I thought that the whole idea of the Bingleys being able to wield so much influence, and hold so much power over Darcy was just laughable, and yet everyone acts as if their claims on Darcy could actually do some harm. I just wasn't buying it.
These issues frustrated me enough that I just wanted to get through the book as soon as possible. Although it's well written and well edited, I can't really recommend it.
Totally fun story to read, hard to put down. All the characters are drawn just right and the surprises are a delight. Angst is set to low and there are some intimate adult scenes.
I felt like was reading one of her early P&P variations. Just a marvelous book.
I love that they made a dark side to Bingly and that Jane refused a second chance with the "puppy".This is a delightful story and a must owned. L.L Diamond once again comes through with new ground on a variation of Jane Austen's work.
Elizabeth has come to London to join a lovelorn Jane and spend the holidays with their Aunt and Uncle Gardiner and young cousins. The original way that ODC meet up again is fun and entertaining.
Near to Elizabeth once more, Darcy stops fighting against his heart’s desire and begins to show his gentlemanly self and softer side to perfection. Who could resist? Elizabeth’s wit abandons her quite often! ODC are soon in a courtship that moves swiftly to an engagement. It’s made all the more lovely that this happens during the sweetness of the holiday season.
I enjoyed that the usual thorny characters are kept mostly to the sidelines, except for Caroline and a weak Charles Bingley who grab center stage and cause trouble galore. Lots of trouble that had me wishing the book was longer. The delight of a wedded D&E spices things up!

It was interesting to see a different side of Bingley, but a little disappointing to have Jane’s story unresolved. I have to say that I found it refreshing for the story to end with Elizabeth neither revealing she was pregnant, nor giving birth, but with a gentler approach to the topic. I wouldn’t read it again, didn’t hate it either.
