Product Description

This collection provides a rich portrait of one of the most beloved U.S. Presidents and significant events that surrounded him. Utilizing interviews with leading Lincoln biographers, Lincoln explores the inner conflicts that plagued and inspired the man who called himself "the loneliest man in the world." In a ploy that was ultimately foiled by the Secret Service, Stealing Lincoln's Body documents the outrageous 1876 plot to steal Lincoln's body and hold it for ransom. The Hunt for John Wilkes Booth follows Booth, and his co-conspirator David Herold, as they elude more than 10,000 Federal troops for 12 days after assassinating Lincoln. Sherman's March re-creates the 285 mile march from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia, on which Sherman said the effort needed to "make old and young, rich and poor, feel the hard hand of war."

I purchased this for my father after we saw Lincoln in the movie theaters. The movie was a tad disappointing to him and he really wanted something a bit more historical about Lincoln overall. He raves how much he enjoyed watching this version and he has watched it several more times since then.

this is cohesive, informative and well done. i think some of the people interviewed are out of their element, so didn't give it a 5. they make outrageous claims on lincoln's sexuality. otherwise, i found this the best dvd so far on lincoln. Detailed with good audio and photos.
Don't even think of paying the lesser amount and getting "Lincoln, Trial By Fire". (It's the poorest dvd we own and will be giving it to Goodwill)

Learned many interesting things I'd never heard before. Particularly liked the disks about Sherman and also Booth's efforts to escape and his wrong expectations that he was a hero. Terrific set of DVDs.

It is absolutely incomprehensible how anyone could take such a key pivotal figure in history, so intrinsically interesting in his own right, who with his self-taught Euclidean logic so profoundly changed the course of human history, and turn the effort into such a profoundly awful hack-job as this! Using a combination of cheap-shot/low budget script writing, complete unknown (and irrelevant) interview subjects who placed an inordinate emphasis on Lincoln's melancholy, homeliness, etc. (even as they actively reformulated their esoteric opinion WHILE BEING INTERVIEWED), and copious amounts of meaningless cheap filler video shots of rail fences, log cabins, and PASTURE GRASS), the makers of this ultra low budget, hackneyed piece have excreted the worst documentary in the history of film making. A group of 6th graders armed with a VHS video camera and a grade school history book for research material could have done a better job than this. You'd be better educated watching a reel of out-takes of The Three Stooges or "WWF smackdown!", than wasting your money (or brain cells) on this tripe.
