However, the book does contain far more typos than would be expected from a scholarly source. Most of the typos appear to be in the first half of the book, though, so the minor irritation alleviates in later chapters. Another flaw with the book is that the binding seems precariously weak for such a heavy book. If you store this book standing upright on a shelf, the weight of the pages will probably pull some of the binding off of the top of the inner spine, as it has happened with my copy. Definitely more of a coffee table book than a bookshelf one.
Overall, I would still recommend this to anyone who wants to read a world history book.
It takes work to read this but you will learn that the world was always pretty screwed up, with the strong exploiting the weak, slavery of all race, wars etc..
I came away with the notion that we are damn lucky that the founding fathers of the USA were who they were and did what they did. Before that time the world had been ruled by monarchs, dictators, emperors and despots. Much of it still is. Without checks and balances we humans tend to revert to our basic competitive survival nature and throw out higher morals out the window.

No home should be without this book. It can be used by children and adults of all ages. A truly captivating history book...
The book is designed in spreads - so each double page spread is a specific period in history. In other words, you can dip in and out of this book as you like and there is no need to read it from front to back. It starts with 6 million year old skulls - just to let you know how much history is involved here.
The book is pretty weighty - and about the length/width of a laptop. The front cover is horrible compared to what's inside. I'm not a heavy reader myself but find this book very easy to read - and enjoyable!
If you need to own just one book on history from the dawn of mankind to the present, get this..You will not be disappointed. This is great for everyone from young students, right up to scholars who may need a brush up on a particular area of history they are not as familiar with.
