Don't know how to express my disappointment in this book. We've been to and stayed at the Stanley multiple times. First of all the book has so many typos and sentence structure problems that it makes the book difficult to read. Really, would not a good author or editor catch at LEAST 'plural vs. possessive'? Other sentences were broken, run-on or just didn't make sense and this made for much distraction when trying to read this book.

Secondly, the book seems to be a compilation of other sources with some "I" this and "I" that comments by the author, interjected where it was, well, distracting once again.

Third, some of the pictures included by the author are awful, just AWFUL. I would not want them included in my work! Really, get another half decent camera if you are going to include pictures into a book.

Fourth, intermixing the history with the hauntings was not a good idea. I would expect the first half of the book to be the history followed by the hauntings. The history was often difficult to follow because of the jumping around.

Fifth, it would have been nice had a more decent floor plan been included. It was difficult trying to figure out where all these rooms were located. I guess I'm a visual person and it would have helped.

Finally, the content was rather disappointing. Naming people who 'claimed' to see ghosts or apparitions with first name, last initial just seemed a little, well, elementary.

But I have to say that the biggest problems with this book are all the typos and lack of good sentence structure in many places. If this book goes to second printing, PLEASE correct these errors.

Just overall a disappointing book. Wish I had borrowed it through my local library loan system.

Having been a huge fan of Stephen King's book and movie, The Shining, i was so excited to buy this book to learn more about the history of the hotel and it's haunted hallways. What a treasure trove of information awaited me. It became quite apparent Ms Pittman did extensive research. She takes the reader back in time besides actually feeling you are on the ghost tour with her.I, like the previous review, couldn't put it down! There will always be skeptics regarding the paranormal, but this book should quell many of them. The perfect book to curl up with on a rainy night! Just be sure to leave the lights on after!

*I was disappointed with first, the typos and grammatical errors in the book.

*I found the author mentioning how she is a mural artist, more than once in the book, almost bragging and self promoting as well.

*A lot of what was written has been done before, and I didn't see the author staying in the rooms she speaks of that much' which was disappointing as it would have been nice to read her personal experiences.

*It is not a book I would refer to again if going to stay at the Stanley. Much of the information is already on the Internet somewhere.

*I heard that the hotel had to have final approval of the book which makes me wonder why. How can this be a true and honest portrayal if this is true?

*As for the photos in the book by a photographer, you have got to be kidding that those were real ghost photos and not touched or altered in any way. No one has caught photos like that and I doubt anyone ever has in reality.

*For the ghost hunting enthusiast or vacationer to this part of Colorado, the book will entertain you and give you a lot of information. Or if you are a Stanley Hotel book collector, like I am, it is worth buying to add to your collection. To the serious investigator (whether you investigate once a year or every week) it is a disappointing.

A rare insightful look at a national treasure! This book has a wonderful flow, combining historical background with modern legend to provide an "I can't put it down" experience.

This leaves me wanting more. When is the next book Ms. Pittman?
