It's my own fault, I suppose, but I was expecting something different when I bought this book. I bought it at the park (now called Chickasaw National Park) when I took my grandchildren, the fourth generation of our family to visit the place. I have so many memories of when I was young and then we took our own children, the first place we actually camped with them. My mother told of going there when she was young as well. If I had taken more time to look over the book I would have realized what it was but herding four youngsters didn't give me that option. It's about the early days and was written by a newspaper man who had done tremendous research. But the more recent history was not there nor where there any pictures. I was sure there would have been something from the more modern era (40's to 80s) but don't believe it was meant to be that. For what it was the book did have some interesting facts, just wasn't what I was looking for. Sure would have liked to have seen more pictures. Oh, and there were a few typos that might have been cleaned up.

For anyone who is familiar with the history of Platt National Park, this is a must. It is interesting reading for those not familiar with the history of the park, because it gives a snapshot of the period of history before Oklahoma statehood. Indian Territory actually included white settlements years before statehood.

I love it. I learned a lot about the park that I didn't know and I grew up in the park on a bicycle. My hometown is Sulphur, Oklahoma where the park is located and I have met the arthor.
