One would expect that in a book covering the history of Silicon Valley it would be easy to look up geographic places in the index. Well, not really. For example, look up San Francisco and you get San Francisco Mime Troupe. Or Mountain View - not listed. How about Palo Alto? Nope. There is just no flow to the narrative at all. Chapters a pretty mush separate compartments.
I bought this book and the book Silicon Valley an Insiders Guide by Ashlee Vance. Ashlee's book is a lot more fun, However, it jumps around and is in serious need of an editor. It also features some of the worst map graphics your likely to encounter.
All in all both are disappointing I was going to try one more book but I decided to learn through the internet.
While dry at parts, the author infuses his opinion into history. For example, he describes Facebook and Google as "parasites".
The author's tone often describes his conclusions as fact. When he noticeably misses his mark, he loses credibility.
The writing is weak, often jumbled. For example, there as a section title "Google vs. Apple. vs. Facebook vs. Amazon." The section does not mention Amazon once.

Did some checking on the author, Arun Rao, and Trader Jeff in his review was definitely on the mark.Read more
