The lower guide assembly has a fairly short mounting post, such that when it is in place, you have at most 1/4" of fore/aft adjustment. In that limited range setting position for the lower guide, the blade can be fitted, and the upper guide fitted ,and the set up works. All seems well...until you wish to tilt the machine table. Then what I found, on my CB75, is that the cast iron trunnion on the underside of the table runs smack into the front of the lower blade guide. Not expecting this, it was easy to damage the guide.

I went through and fixed the guide, getting cadmium-plated bearing carrier back to a straightened-out condition, however upon closer examination when refitting it to the machine, I found there was no way to set the lower guide so that it did not interfere with the table's trunnion when rotating the table. The lower guide's mounting post should be another 1/2" longer ideally.

To solve the problem, I ended up putting the guide in my milling machine and cutting a 1/8" rebate off of a portion of the steel block on the lower guide which carries the rear bearing, and with material removed the trunnion would then clear. Now it works fine, but this is not exactly the finest guide engineering from the factory. I have the impression that they designed the guide to fit the machine either without ever checking what would happen when the table tilted, or possibly there are differences between different production years in terms of the trunnion casting.

I think most folks who use this bandsaw, like me, rarely tilt the table, so it's not an obvious sort of issue. for those that do wish to tilt the table, then this is going to be a problem if your machine is identical to mine. It would be a simple fix at the factory.

For the cost of this item I would have expected some written instructions. I spent a couple of hours doing a job that should have taken no more than 30 minutes. No paper work, no instructions, no idea where to start. After an extended period of trial and error installations, I finally figured it out. Once I had discovered what went where, it was simple. The one benefit is that I received is that I know a whole lot more about my saw than when I started to install this kit.

Although these blade guards weren't terribly difficult to install, it bothers me that they are sold and shipped without any instructions, cautions, diagrams, etc. This seems like a huge liability issue the first time someone gets hurt after installing these incorrectly. I recommend against anyone trying to install these unless you are absolutely sure how the work, and preferably have another saw to look at as a guide.
