This saw changed that completely; it is spectacular, seriously. The 5 year warranty is great to have, it cut square immediately out of the box and has plenty of power. The blade it comes with isn't too bad either, though I still put a Freud combination blade on it just to be safe. One thing I noticed is that there isn't any wobble when it's straight up; if you push against the handle a bit the only thing that flexs is the handle not anything else so it can only cut square versus cheaper models often have some movement and require much more care and aren't always accurate.
For $120 this is a steal in my opinion because all you have to do is get it out of the box, plug it in, and cut. Seriously, I cannot recommend this saw enough even for professionals like myself. Hitatchi has a new fan and I can promise I will be buying more very soon!
The real trouble started when I took inventory. I thought I was missing the 10mm Box wrench, but during fiddling with attempting to assemble all the accessories to the saw I discovered the wrench mounted on top of the frame between the motor and the blade. A few notes to all: 1) The Holder (B) mounts to the rear of the saw frame to keep it from tilting rearward. It is bent in such a way that it only contacts the the workbench surface if mounted in one direction. 2) If the Vise Assembly is mounted on the right (of the blade) it may block the motor if it is not exactly positioned correctly, which seems like it's useless there. 3) It was difficult to mount the Sub Fence and Plate (A) together so the plate either locks the sub fence in place, prevent wear at the bolt between the two fences, or what ever it's supposed to do.
After mounting and bolting it down to a work table I finally finally got to cut some wood, which it does exceptionally well. The blade and motor are vibrationless and it easily and accurately cut the scrap wood framing I was using. I have a few 80 tooth 10 in. blades that will probably cut MDF or plywood smoother than the original blade installed so I'll replace it with one of those. I may even buy a non-ferrous metal blade for extruded alumnum framing I need to occasionally cut.
A caution should you want to mount to a miter saw stand. I have a DeWalt stand and brackets. When mounting to the brackets i found that the mounting holes in the saw base were spaced differently. So brackets are not 90 degrees to the fence as the hole spacing is approx. two inches narrower in front than back. I may try mounting the saw to a piece of plywood then to the brackets. It is very lightweight and easy to carry with one hand.
At this price point I think it is a very good buy. I would not call it professional grade for heavy jobsite use.
This saw has performed perfectly for me - I am not a contractor or wood worker but do many things around our house and property - ( replaced every stick of door, window and base molding in the house, deck work, fencing on property, etc.
The Hitachi has exceeded my expectations - I have it mounted on a portable collapsible miter saw stand and I purchased the non laser version and added my own ( Oshlun LG-M01 Miter and Portable Saw Laser Guide ) that at the time saved me some $. BTW the laser works perfectly !!
The Hitachi is easy to use and maintain and very accurate. I Highly Recommend This Saw !
