Prior to my actual purchase of this tool I did extensive research on other brands that were in the same price range and this one seemed to have better reviews along with better performance. In actual use it performed as expected especially in the hammer/drill mode in drilling holes in concrete. Very quick, smooth and little, if any vibration through the handle. In switching to the hammer only mode with a flat spade bit it did only an adequate job of breaking up concrete thus it is by no means a substitute for a true demolition hammer.

The one thing that I didn't appreciate is that Hitachi has too many models that appear to be very similar in appearance and in the same price range. It made it difficult to actually determine exactly which model I really wanted to purchase

Needed a roto-hammer immediately that I could depend on punching a minimum of 2 dozen 5/8" x 12" holes into 50 year old poured concrete footer.
I knew better than to buy the $40 throw away drills. Rental would be the same cost as buying this Hitachi with time and fuel figured in. So I ordered the Hitachi.
Not only is a cool green color, amazing amazon delivered it to my door in 6 hours!
The tool feels solid. It went to work right away and with the appropriate cool down time between holes, it ran all 2 dozen holes with no problems.
Very glad I purchased this Hitachi!

I got this so we could take down a three story (40 ft) chimney with this thing. It worked like a charm. The only problem I had was that the bits will shoot out when the brick/mortar finally breaks free. Lost the point bit when I first started and haven't been able to find it. This thing is a workhorse. The rotary drill made a particularly tough concrete with big aggregate (that we couldn't drill through with masonry bits and several different expensive drills) very easy, like it was soft.

I hear rumors that the tools you buy here have plastic mechanical parts inside as opposed to metal parts that you would get if you bought it from a professional tool store. Well I bought one on here and one at the store for the price difference of 130$ vs 230$ and let me tell you, they both drill the same damn holes with ease. I alternate between the two so if this one breaks first it might have some validity to the different mechanical parts theory. If not well that's called a dirty mark up.

I repair concrete as part of my occupation. This is a great smaller chisel / hammer for projects where i need to chisel concrete to make an epoxy repair to a bad transition or a crack or hole. Chisels well, drills very well too. Compares well to bosch's "bulldog" for a lot less $

Needed a hammer drill for couple of projects. Did quite a bit of research and knew I wanted a SDS unit that had hammer drill and hammer only modes. Couldn't justify buying Bosch for occasional use. I have had good luck with some other Hitachi tools so bought this one. Using Bosch bulldog bits it cuts through cement like butter. I cut 40 consecutive 1/2" holes 4" deep and drill handled with ease. Has a decent hard sided case with enough room for some bits and tap cons. Reasonable price for great feeling of power.

Hammer drilled 42 holes, 1/2" diameter, at a 6" depth into a concrete block retaining wall, cells filled with concrete. Wow this thing took about 20 seconds for each hole using a little drizzle of water to keep the Hilti Quad carbide bit head cool (I paid a whopping $50 for this bit but was worth it, lasts longer and cuts faster and I can sharpen the carbide bits). It comes with a nice case and at $168 including shipping and handling, it's a steal!

I've had an older model for 10 years, so when I needed an additional one I had no hesitation buying this one. When I fired it up I was plesently suprised to see how much better this one is. Absolutely a wonderful beast to use if you need to use this type of tool. I haven't had either one fail me yet.
