Regardless, google smartmontools (all one word) for a good set of utilities to tell you how many hours are on your "new" drives. If you buy these, plug them in immediately, install a tool like smartmontools, and check when the last self-tests were completed (the drive records this in it's firmware).
I have purchased several drives as new in the past that had 100 hours + (one even had ~400 hours), and I was fine with it. Who knows, those hours could have been manufacture testing, but a HDD with 2500+ hours on it SOLD AS NEW is ridiculous!
CHECK YOUR DRIVES AS SOON AS THEY ARRIVE.
By design, the drive is nestled in a full tower with lots of spacing and case cooling. This should minimize failures.
It's literally took less than 6 months for this failure. WDC and Samsungs drives are 4-5 years old and still ticking. NOT HAPPY.
It is also fast, quiet, and a super deal. I may get a second as a backup.
I purchased 3 of them about 6 months ago for a low cost file server and everything has been working great.
They run a little warm but all that i had to do was put a 92 mm fan in my otherwise passively cooled server and the temps are down in the 30's/
