N3804AB3 ¼-inches Narrow Crown Stapler
Uses & Applications
Hitachi’s N3804AB3 narrow crown stapler is ideal for internal and external trim work, furniture assembly, cabinet and countertop work and other fine finish applications. It can be used in any application requiring superior holding strength in thin materials like soffit plywood, floor underlayment, cabinet backs, and countertop blanks. It’s 'one sweet stapler' as one of our end users put it.
Key Features and Benefits
Tool-free Depth Adjustment
The N3804AB3 offers tool-free depth adjustment that identically sets each staple to the desired depth into the material, for improved control and customization. Operating pressure ranges between 70-120 PSI and air consumption is .025ft3/cycle at 100 PSI.
Ergonomically Designed Flip Actuation Switch
Just move the switch from bump fire mode (hold the trigger and the stapler will drive a staple each time the nose touches a surface) to sequential fire mode (trigger must be depressed each time for more deliberate placement and a slower pace of work). Either way, its quick to make the switch as your application requires without any tooling to make the adjustment.
Lightweight and Well-balanced
Weighing in at only 2.3 lbs the N3804AB3 is extremely well-balanced. It fits comfortably and securely in hand thanks to the non-slip elastomer grip and trigger. The weight, balance and handling are just right for precision performance.
360 Degree Adjustable Exhaust Port
At the top of the stapler is the convenient 360° adjustable exhaust port. This can be spun around in any direction to ensure the air exhaust doesn’t blow in your face or near your work piece.
Warranty Info, What's in the Box, and Other Information
Covered by Hitachi’s 5-year warranty.
What's in the Box?
The N3804AB3 stapler, a convenient case for easy transport and storage (885902), a no-mar tip (885969), hose fitting and safety glasses (875769).
Because it uses an 18 gauge narrow crown staple (only a ¼ of an inch across the top) and accepts staples lengths from ½-inches up to 1-1/2-inches – the staple doesn’t leave a huge mark – not much more than the top of a nail head if you were to use a nail in its place. It can also be used for tacking. Staples have excellent hold and are often times more cost effective for the application.
This stapler comes complete with a no-mar tip installed that can protect the work surface from marring. It also comes with the hose fitting already factory installed at the rear so it’s ready to go right out of the box. The fitting is angled upwards slightly to help keep the hose away from the user and off the work piece.
To load the high capacity solid steel magazine, simply draw the feeder back to lock, set staples over the exposed rail, then release the slider to securely hold the staples in place. The N3804AB3 can hold up to 100 staples for less frequent replenishment.

The truth is, I did not know what to expect. I have never owned an air-powered stapler or nail gun. I planned to use this Hitachi stapler to put up kraft-faced insulation, and then later use it for trim work. Yeah, right. I loaded it with 0.50" staples. They went right through the paper tabs on the insulation and kept on going into the studs. I had to look hard to find them because they had been sunk so deeply.
I turned the air pressure down to 70 PSI, which is the minimum operating pressure and set the stapler's depth adjustment to minimum. No dice. Too powerful! I went back to using my Arrow T-50 Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Special.
I decided to get to know this little monster better. So I ran a test to see what it could do. I loaded it with 1.50" Senco staples and fastened a piece of 7/16" Oriented Strand Board (OSB) to some wall studs in about five seconds. Extremely impressive! I showed my science project to my wife.
She said, "Very nice. Now take it down. It looks terrible stuck up there."
I tried to pull the test piece off the wall with my bare hands, but it would not budge. Then I tried to pull it off with a 22 oz. framing hammer. That didn't work either. Finally, I had to use a 3-foot long pry bar. Geez, talk about embarrassing.
My last futile effort involved trying to recycle the test piece of OSB by attempting to extract the 1.5" staples I had shot into it. I won't tell you what happened except to say the OSB went into my woodstove, staples and all.
Here is a tip: Whatever you staple with this Hitachi stapler is forever.Read more ›
The only thing I don't like is the kit does not come with sample staples and lubricant. It is not that I don't have them at home but it means the case does not design with designated places for those. minus one star for that.
It arrived, opened the box , 3 drops oil fired off 6 staples, perfect. It jammed......I saw the ribbon spring holding magazine shut popped off. I re hooked it up, and it popped again.
I know this one gets insanely good reviews but, I did find quite a few people online, who had this happen. I don't like the ribbon design.
I have 4 other Hitachi guns and wanted to make my stapler Hitachi....I am sad.
I give 10 stars for the speedy handling of my problem and a extremely fast refund by amazon. Nobody does customer service better.
All of that said, this Hitachi stands out from the crowd. The magnesium body is very lightweight, the staple rail is made of metal, it's comfortable to grip and use, it's not terribly loud, ... It's great.
It does fall short of perfect though. My one complaint so far is the depth adjustment knob/wheel. It's placement and function are fine, but it's unfortunately made of plastic and the indents in it aren't deep enough. The first time I tried to adjust it, with clean, dry hands, my fingers were just sliding across it without the thing even turning. I had to use my fingernail the catch the indents. It's not a big enough issue for me to deduct a star though, I'll just take it apart and burn deeper grooves in it or something... All in all, I love this thing.
