I have absolute conviction when I say that this is possibly one of the most important texts you will ever read.
The first time I read the series It didn't quite click with me but after a while something quite remarkable happened, and I understood that while the humor is good and strange, they really have an important message contained within them that can only be explained by reading.
Took me a while to see it but once I did - I never thought the same way again. Ever.
This is actually something that could help a whole lot of people :) - I think it's a little under-rated, as many people simply fail to understand it, get bored, and stop reading.
Good example of this is the recent film adaptation which quite frankly was absolute rubbish, and completely failed to capture the essence of the books.
Really go and read it :)
Love to hear from anyone who's had similar thoughts on this, or any thoughts at all really ^_^

I recently bought this set to give away as a gift. I was kind of skeptical of the condition but really preferred the cover art of this set, so I bought it thinking I'd keep it if it looked too worse for wear. The set of books I got (from seller HPB) was actually brand new, complete with plastic wrap.

It's a box set with two different covers on either side and miniature cover art from all five books on the spine.

I am very happy and just bought a second set to keep for myself.

Re-re-reading these books. Adams almost defined a new genre with this book, and if you consider yourself to have any sense of humour at all and to hold even a marginal interest in science fiction, you should have read this.

This product was well packaged and in great shape.
I love the series and would recommend it for anyone who wants to catch up on '90s sci-fi humor.
If you ever wondered why '42' comes up so much in sci-fi, this is where you should look.

If you have a teen who loves tech, this is a good set of books to get them reading.

...but it was followed, in 1979, by something rather smaller but infinitely more useful and far easier to read - "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy", the story of Arthur Dent, local radio executive, dressing-gown wearer and interplanetary refugee.

Originally released as a BBC Radio series, H2G2 quickly found its way to print and was followed over thhe period of thirty-odd years by five follow-up books, a TV series and a film. In that time the story arc gained a huge fan-base and brought its author, Douglas Adams, a degree of immortality achieved only by the lesser gods.

This edition gathers together the first five books, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1979), The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (1980), Life, the Universe and Everything (1982), So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish (1984) and Mostly Harmless (1992) under one cover. The sixth book, And Another Thing ... was written by Eoin Colfer in 2009 and is available seperately.

So what exactly IS H2G2? Ostensibly, it tells of Arthur's peregrinations across the universe (the Earth having been destroyed by a Vogon Constructor Fleet to make way for a hyperspace bypass) accompanied by Zaphod Beeblebrox, Ford Prefect, Trillian and Marvin The Paranoid Android. The characters sound fun but actually they are rather cod, stock sci-fi personnel so...

A epic and a futuristic view by a person with a quasi scientific outlook by a person with a working knowledge of science make the book an all time great.
His ideas about the universe life and everything especially God is worth following to ensure a religion free world wit no boundaries .crisp scientific and totally readable I often quote its episodes to match episodes in the bible.

This is one of those sci-fi classics I love to return to time and time again. It's hilarious and yet intriguing in it's witty social commentary masked as science fiction. So grab your towel and a copy of this book, you'll understand why later.

If you like TV shows like Monty Python's Flying Circus, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, you'll probably like this. Like those, it is steeped with irony, specifically understatement of important things and overstatement of trivial details. I was introduced to the "trilogy" when I was in my twenties and loved it. Recently, book one was selected as the book of the month in my company book club, so I picked up the Kindle version and loved it as much as the first time I read it. This version has all sorts of extra goodies, like a copy of an old endorsement by five Monty Python alumni.
