The Hite Report: A Nationwide Study of Female Sexuality Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 136 ratings

A reproduction of the classic text, unavailable now for more than a decade, with a new introduction by the author. The Hite Report, first published in 1976, was a sexual revolution in six hundred pages. To answer sensitive questions dealing with the most intimate details of women's sexuality, Hite's innovation was simple: she asked women, a lot of them, everything--and published the results.
One hundred thousand women, ages fourteen to seventy-eight, were asked what they do and don't like about sex; how orgasm really feels, with and without intercourse; how it feels not to have an orgasm during sex; the importance of clitoral stimulation and masturbation; and to name the greatest pleasures and frustrations of their sexual lives, among many other questions.
The Hite Report declares that orgasm is easy and strong for women, given the right stimulation; that most women have orgasm most easily during masturbation or clitoral stimulation by hand; that sex as we define it is a cultural institution, not a biological one; and that attitudes must change to include the stimulation women desire.

Most of this book consists of women describing sexual experiences in considerable detail. All the women are articulate; some are eloquent or even poetic.

Beyond this entertainment, males can gain tremendous practical knowledge about how to please women sexually. Any man who's interested in the subject (that includes me) should study these lessons, take them to heart, and practice them enthusiastically, not grudgingly.

I revisited the book after reading about the death of the author last year. Every article I read said that Playboy magazine trashed it, calling it "The Hate Report." I thought the magazine promoted sexual liberation and pleasure, so I'm dumbfounded by the harsh criticism. Maybe they disliked the author's feminist commentary. Being a feminist myself, I don't have a problem with it.

Even heterosexual males who hate Shere Hite should look past her comments and listen to the women she surveyed.

The Hite Report: A National Study of Female Sexuality

I first purchased "The Hite Report" in the early 80's.
I am a straight male and a product of the 60's
This is a Sexuality survey of FEMALES,for FEMALES, done BY A FEMALE.
I learned a lot about the opposite sex, and acquired a better understand of a Female's private sexuality.-

YES YES -I told my lady friends "The Hite Report" is Mandatory reading.
Regarding there own personal pleasures, desires, fantasies, wants, and feelings they have had to deal with, they will say "I'm OK" "I'm NOT ALONE"

Now 20+ years later it is still very informative. I purchased 2 additional copies for the Young-ins who tell me it's the "Bomb". Now they think this old geezer is alright.

It is life changing for the Females.
Males will have a better understanding of female's and relationships.

Looks like more copies for the young-ins this Xmas

Ms Hite has been criticized for not following scientific methods. This book told me what I wanted to know without being too scientific, thank you. Before I married, this book was required reading for any boyfriends I had sex with...So, maybe not SCIENCE, but TRUTH, certainly. I sat around lots of tables talking with lots of women friends about these things, and it was very, very helpful to know what some other women go through and how they feel about a very personal and important part of life. This, being anonymous, gets even deeper, and I'll be forever grateful to Ms. Hite.

This was a staple of my reading as a teen. I read it every year as a reminder that a woman is a gift and it takes very little for a man to separate himself from others if he just pays attention.

A full ranging series of interviews and answers to women responses to questions on sex and intercourse. I have to admit as a mere male that I was very confused in the end. I came away with three things in my mind
1. many/some women appear to find lesbian a suitable alternative to heterosexual sex.
2. some women find penetrative sex overly aggressive.
3. Many women like cunnilingus.

The Scientific Method
3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, as always, but hasn’t dated well.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 16, 2018
It’s still an interesting read decades after I first came across it. However, it hasn’t aged well. The basic feminist premis, that women are silenced and dominated go men was undermined by the following report The Hite Report in Male sexuality. Indeed, in the decades since it first published sex and sexuality has been gone over again and again in the hundreds of women’s magazines.
