Sally Brandle sets the stage amid the beauty of rural Montana for an exciting thriller as these two star-crossed lovers end up as both the hunters and the hunted. The action and near-death events will keep you turning the pages as you root for the hero and heroine to escape their pursuer, solve the crime, and find a way into each other’s hearts.
Personally, I wasn’t a fan of how the story unfolded. It starts out with sinister drama in the form of a 25 year old woman who’s been traumatized by something at some point in her life. She’s a bundle of nerves. It’s nighttime, she’s in a Seattle government building and she’s the building’s plant caretaker. She’s misting and snipping away at dead leaves. Due to her alluded-to trauma, she’s a very jumpy person, seeing danger in every shadow and noise in the building.
Where’s the night guard? - missing on duty. Her worst fear happens and suddenly she’s a witness to a terrible crime. She freaks out because the person who was attacked tells her to run. From then on, she’s on the run, with good reason because now the bad guys are after her. The remainder of the story is the bad guys tracking her > catching up to her > attempting to kill her > repeat a few times.
Meanwhile, she develops a crush on the 29 year old FBI agent helping her, though he’s uncertain if she is a witness or an accomplice to the crime.
I didn’t understand why she was so jumpy in the first place. She, personally, was not the victim of the crime that haunted her, though the results of that crime understandably haunted her. She had a lot of guilt that made no sense to me.
Finally, she and the FBI believe there is still another bad guy after her, yet she returns to her apartment. Someone knocks on the door and somebody opens the door without looking through the peephole or asking “who is it?”. Sigh.
There were so many things in the story contrived to create drama and anxiety, like every chapter or so. Her friends could have told the FBI what was going on, but didn’t. I will say, I admired the author’s imagination and ability to string all the events together.
Stand alone HEA, with hints of further books to come.
Contains no sex scenes, I don't remember any swear words, and violence (attempted murder and lots more).
A courageous heroine racing from a determined killer while battling nightmares of her past.
A swoon-worthy hero determined to protect her and equally determined not to fall in love. The action races from Seattle to the idyllic town of Emma Springs, in snowy Montana, and back to Seattle. The love story is punctuated with gunfire, explosions, and hair curling cliffhangers. But make no mistake, At heart, it's a love story. And I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
The author is going to be presenting this book at our book club meeting this month. I'm looking forward to meeting her.

The story has lot of characters but the ones that caught the limelight were
Agent Grant Morley
Ike(in the beginning)
This is a fast paced novel which touches upon various subjects like Crime, Vengeance, Love, Courage etc among others.
The love angle between Miranda and Agent Grant was a blessing in disguise. It makes the otherwise serious subject, an enjoyable one. It all begins with an assassination attempt of a Federal Judge. While we can very well assume as to why this has been done, the way the protagonist tries her best to protect the Federal Judge and despite knowing the fact as to who was the person who was behind it, she puts up a brave fight.
Despite her neighbour house being stalked, cops also being involved in the incident, when you think all her hopes were shattered, there emerges a light.
But, does it help Miranda?
Was she able to fend off her stalkers?
Did she manage to get justice?
Was she able to win the love of Agent Grant Morley?
