Now, you may be asking yourself "why spend this much on a kayak"? Well after having several traditional bass boats and getting sick of maintenance - boat slip- parking fees - taxes- registration-gasoline I can say the price of the kayak is a one time payment, whereas bigger boats cost more to begin with and have on going costs that never end until you sell them. "Then why not just go with a cheaper paddle kayak?" you can however you will see the benefits of the pedal drive system after paddling in high winds or long distances. Plus if you are a fisherman you will love being able to fish while on the go, this is not really possible paddling a kayak by hand. One thing to note, many traditional kayaks are boat only when you purchase them...that means you have to buy accessories separately like a paddle. The outback comes with a paddle and a rudder plus the drive system so the cost doesn't seem so bad. One last thing, there is something special about kayak fishing it has exploded in the past 5 yrs or so ...it's more personal as you are closer to the water and you are using your own human power to get around...catch a large fish in one and you will see what Im talking about.
I wish I bought a Hobie Revolution 13 and just added AMA outriggers (or home made outriggers). Since the Outback is wide, it is slower than the Revolutions 11&13. So if the Revolution 13 isn't stable enough, don't worry, you can make it more stable with accessories. The Outback is very stable and you can make it even more stable with outriggers but you can't make it faster, so I wish I bought a Revolution 13.
I really love this boat!
