We played target games, (get it in the basket and stuff like that), rather than shooting at each other. But, there's no harm if someone is hit because the balls are soft, (harder than Nerf and softer than ping pong), and don't have much force behind them.
The balls really do fly up to 20 feet and it's even possible to aim them pretty well, so target games aren't frustrating.
At first we were really disappointed because two of the monsters didn't work. If you squeezed it the ball just sort of fell out. Well, there's a trick here. The balls have a little bit of a rim around the "equator". You have to push the ball into the monster until you feel a slight positive "snap". If you don't push the ball in all of the way it won't POP out, it will just roll out. Once we figured that out and once the balls got broken in a little bit, all of the Monsters worked fine.
For what it's worth, our players were four, six, six and nine years old. None of them had any trouble inserting the balls or getting the balls to POP out. A gentle firm squeeze was all they needed.
We're usually reluctant to buy novelty stuff on spec, but the bottom line is that these were a great success and have kept up their play value. A nice find.
