Good Background Information for Harry Potter Fans

This is a collection of short short stories -- call them snapshots if you will. In the first chapter you will find information about King’s Cross Station, Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, and the Hogwarts Express. Chapter two explains more about the sorting hat and what happens if the hat has a hard time deciding where a student belongs, otherwise known as hatstall. The third chapter describes the never-before-seen Hufflepuff common room and has information on the Marauder’s Map and the Great Lake. Chapter four has information on Hogwarts school subjects and time-turners (one of the more interesting stories). I really liked the fifth chapter with its story Hogwarts ghosts (and more information about ghosts in general), The Ballad of Nearly Headless Nick Hogwarts, more information about the portraits at Hogwarts, and the story of Sir Cadogan and how he came to have a fat pony as a mount. The sixth chapter tells you more about the Mirror of Erised, pensieves, the Philosopher’s Stone, the Sword of Gryffindor, and the Chamber of Secrets.

I liked all the information, although most of the information is apparently available on the Pottermore site. What I didn't like is the book felt padded; some pages had only a short paragraph. Still the good far outweighs the bad, in my opinion. I like having all the information gathered up for me.

If you are a fan of Harry Potter and either don't have the inclination to read through the site or just want to have the information easily available, this ebook is for you!

This one was a bit of a disappointment. Very much incomplete and since Rowling is the one who basically wrote all the pieces, then they would be reliable unless she changes her mind.

Six chapters for this one similar to the others but in this case, it's more short explanations and Rowling's thoughts. Just a total of three to five pages.

The Journey to Hogwarts tells us about King's Cross Station, Platform Nine and Three-Quarters and the Hogwarts Express.
The Sorting chapter has, of course, the Sorting Hat and what is a Hatstall.
The Castle and Grounds describes the Hufflepuff Common Room, the Marauder's Map and the Great Lake.
Lessons at Hogwarts Hogwarts School Subjects and a Time Turner
Castle Residents are the Hogwarts Ghosts and Ghosts in general; the Ballad of Nearly Headless Nick and Hogwarts Portraits with more detail about Sir Cadogan
Secrets of the Castle consisted of the Mirror of Erised, a Pensieve, the Philosopher's Stone, Sword of Gryffindor, and the Chamber of Secrets.

Personally, it was interesting to read and I am glad that it was available as an ebook because, undoubtedly, I could find all the same information on Pottermore if I wanted to dredge through postings. But also because it was a relatively inexpensive purchase. I just wished there was more "meat" to these blurbs on Hogwarts.

But, we do know there are ghosts, all manner and personality of them.
Each House has it's own ghost, as well as the ones that stay in certain areas.
There are more rooms and hallways than anyone can remember, as many are
constantly moving.
A map was made to be able to follow people as they moved about the castle, but
nobody knows what became of it.
This book tells about the things mentioned above, as well as many other interesting
tid-bits that can be revealed about Hogwarts.
It is far from complete, because, every new school year, Hogwarts changes...

Needs All Houses But Fantastic!

While I enjoyed the information in this eBook, just I did the other two in this short series, I found that there were a few really important things missing from his one. I got overly excited when i started reading the part about Hufflepuff because I thought that she was going to do a detailed description of each of the houses, instead I was disappointed to find that the only house to receive special attention by having a detailed description in this eBook was Hufflepuff. J.K. explains that she did this because Hufflepuff gets left out of so much of the Harry Potter series and that they deserve some recognition, but I feel like this eBook is incomplete in regards to all houses.

Being a Ravenclaw I found the lack of a detailed description of my house to be a letdown, but overall the rest of the eBook held some valuable insights into characters and objects that are vital to Hogwarts. It does feel like these were a jumble of random blurbs and excerpts that J.K. has posted online at one point or another, but to have them all in one place is a nice thing for any Harry Potter fan. If you're a fan of the series then you will enjoy this. If you are new to the series I recommend reading a few of the books first so that you will understand the things mentioned in this eBook, and so that you won't run across any unintentional spoilers for the series.

Even though I am aware of the Pottermore website and have periodically visited and read a bit of the content, I thoroughly enjoyed this guide. It is perfectly arranged, beginning with a description of the journey to Hogwarts. Once at the school, the book branches off into other areas such as castle residents, students' lessons, and the sorting hat. It was interesting to read Ms. Rowling's descriptions followed by her personal thoughts (which at times allow us into her mind and reveal how she created different elements of the stories).

As pointed out, one could search around the website and find most of what was in the book. Missing, however, would be the opportunity to experience the author's skill at putting together a collection of quick stories and descriptions and turning it into something magical. Five stars.

This is another of the little compendiums of writing available from Pottermore; this installment being all about Hogwarts. Although the information is extremely brief, I loved learning more about the school and grounds. If you're a Potter addict like me then it is naturally a must read.

My favourite segment was relating to Time Turners - their showing in the series was brief but I always wanted to know more about their working and limitations. There's a tantalizingly small and yet satisfying amount of knowledge found about them here (which made me instantly want to go back and read the third book all over again!).

A great addition to your Potter library.

I don’t know what exactly other people want but I would love a series of books from when Lily, James, Sirius and co were all younger and, more importantly, from the days of the Order of the Phoenix. People want to know JK. Write more books!

Anywho, I was very excited about this series of books and oh wow did they blow my mind. I loved learning about the history of Hogwarts and more about the supporting cast of Harry Potter. This is what I want more of. Who knew Minerva McGonagal’s past was so fraught with heartache or the exact details of Professor Trewlany’s legacy?

This series will satiate the appetite of any HP fan….but don’t expect it to last too long. WE. WANT. MORE!

I'm not all that sure what I was expecting from Hogwarts an Incomplete & Unreliable Guide, I was completely engrossed learning various things about Hogwarts that probably couldn't have been learnt in any other way, and it is those little details that I think makes Rowling's world so engaging in the first place.

What I found even more interesting was that this book contained almost a commentary from JK Rowling herself, which let the reader know why things weren't included in the series or how she made a decision about what or who to include.

This was interesting and I enjoyed learning more about Hogwarts.

Whistle-Stop Tour Of Hogwarts.

Fans of Harry Potter will probably already be familiar with much of the content within this brief guide to Hogwarts and some of its iconic features. This whistle stop tour looks at various aspects every young witch or wizard attending Hogwarts might encounter including objects such as the Pensieve or Time Turner and gives a quick overview of Rowlings ideas behind the creation of each one. Equally we see some fun insight into the making of Hogwarts and the imaginings behind Platform 9 and 3/4, plus many others.

Whilst most fans will know a lot of what is shared within this short text, it is still a great nostalgic read for fans and let's face it, we'd read a cereal box of Rowling had written it! I did find it fun to see what some of the characters would have been named in another version of the books and especially enjoyed the Ghosts section in which we see the beheading (nearly) of nearly headless Nick.

Overall a nice addition for fans, which Pottermore users might already be familiar with, with some interesting facts and anecdotes from Rowling.

I actually found this one to be the most enjoyable of the three Pottermore Presents eBooks. I think it's because this one was actually advertised as being a guide, unlike the two "short story" collections which were really also guides.

The Incomplete and Unreliable Guide provides lots of interesting tidbits about Hogwarts, from the inspiration behind Rowling's decision to use Kings Cross Station to the legend of Sir Cadogan. While there isn't a terribly large amount of new information, I did like discovering what the hitherto unseen Hufflepuff common room looked like and reading about Rowling's other ideas before settling on the Sorting Hat.

The biggest disappointment about this guide was its length. "Incomplete" is the right word for it as it presents a highly focused look at a few areas of Hogwarts and ignores others entirely. Still, it's a valuable resource for a fan of the series and provides an interesting look into what life is like for a young witch or wizard attending the school for the first time.

The pages here are available to read for free on Pottermore. That said, I did enjoy reading them again and will most likely read again the next time I revisit HP.
