I really wanted to share my opinion about this FANTASTIC product. When I purchased it for our company I had some doubts since the pricing was very low but, believe me, the product is not cheap-made and has some features that are usually not well shown in reviews on YouTube.
- First of all: IT HAS NO CALIBRATION! You don't need to calibrate it. Never. You just take it out of the case and shoot.
- Second: The gimbal allows the use of an external mic on Osmo Action for Vlogging (I added some photos of my solution using a Saramonic SR-XM1 and a Cynova Adaptor that allows both mic+charging trough the Gimbal of the camera).
So imagine: you have a camera that will last at least 6 hours continuously shooting 4k with the help of the gimbal battery (that normally allows around 12hrs of operation) and in addition you can have an external mic that may be oriented towards you or the scene (please see 2 different photos about this).
- Third: The carrying case provided fits also the Action cam (!!!) and I also put in the cables, microphone etc. so you really have a super small and PERFECT vlogging solution in your hands at anytime.
- Fourth: With an Osmo action (and I think also with other action cams) you compensate all the movements that the camera stabilization cannot handle. The camera stabilization is normally handling small vibration, the gimbal, on the other side, makes sure there's no repentine large movement. SO you have a 100% perfect stabilization using this gimbal not only for vibrations or small movement but also for more massive movements.
Of course shooting in HDR and 4k60 will be possible (since Rocksteady does not work in those 2 modes) and I think also Gopros have such kind of limitation at higher resoltions/shutter speed settings.
I can definitely tell: if you are evaluating to buy, don't be influenced by the price. As owner of expensive gimbals for mirrorless cameras I can tell you that this product is so smart and competitive that I would not really expect.
Its value is much more than its cost.
I would like to ask the producer if they can think about a thinner bracket for the Osmo action since the one provided partially covers the camera front screen. The covered part is minimal but a thinner metallic bracket, may be shaped around the lenses, would be absolutely welcome.
