In all honesty, this book wouldn't have been something that I would have gone out of the way for since it's a Suspenseful Romance that requires you to keep reading the next book in the series to find out the conclusion to Denham and Arianna's story. That being said, I thoroughly enjoy the book to the very end.... which has left me dying to read the next book in the series (Which I intend to read).
The writing itself is realistic and the characters are uniquely their own.... they don't seem to overlap each other, where they do or say the exactly the same things as the other characters.
I have to say that at times Arianna could get a little crazy with her going back and forth on her building relationship with Denhem, as well as her concern with her past and wanting closure, but that's all part of her character development. With everything she's gone through and her gut tell her that the past isn't just going to go away, she's struggling woman trying to find her future. As for Denham's character development, it's also very well written, showing he's more than a sculpted body that knows what to do to please a woman's desires. He fights for her to let him in and she's fighting with her instincts that say she can trust him, when all she wants to do is run and hide.
I think this book was definitely a great read with an anxious ending that will make you want to read more.
I'd definitely suggest this book to anyone who doesn't mind reading about a woman's journey of the healing process after a domestically abusive past that seems intent to keep her there; but also a story that continues on to the next book.... this story is NOT a stand alone book, you'll need to read Book 2 in order find out the conclusion to Arianna's story.
Nikki is a very talented Author who portrays all the needed emotions to make her stories come alive, as well as keeping her audience captivated until the very end and then some.... definitely an Author worthy of an opportunity for readers new to her work.
5 out of 5 star rating
Arianna is running away from an abusive relationship. She seems to fall into the same patterns with men. Hopefully luck will be on her side soon. She finally reaches out her best friend Lottie, who helps her get a hotel in Las Vegas. Arianna has a run-in with a well-groomed man. Denham owns the Kingdom Hotel and when he wants something he doesn't give up. Arianna struggles letting him get close to her. He is Ariana's Saving Grace even though she doesn't know it yet. But wants Arianna let's her guard down and stopped looking over her shoulder, things started to go wrong.
This is not a book you want to miss out on. There's secrets, twist & turns, hot sex, suspense, and angst. Holding Aces is a very well-written book and the details throughout it are amazing.
This love story of Denham and Arianna is so much more than just your standard romance. Arianna is a woman plagued by past mistakes, bad decisions and is running yet again from her life when she literally smashes into the world that is Denham King. The man that can make her future something she never dared dream about. The man who can love her like no one ever could.
Set in Las Vegas, this exciting page turner is sexy, steamy yet oh so romantic. Denham is a very swoonworthy man who wants it all for the woman he has fallen for and will do everything in his power to make sure she stays safe. The secondary characters of Lottie (the best friend) and Spike (his brother and Lottie's bf) add a great fun dynamic to the story. An "accidental" confrontation with Arianna's estranged husband and the threat of an abusive ex-fiance lurking in the shadows, book 2 and the conclusion to this storyline will be worth the wait! Thank goodness it will be here soon.
I highly recommend Holding Aces and give it a very solid 4 stars. Nikki Groom wrote a book you will not want to miss and you will not be disappointed!

Filled with suspense and new found hope in another.
The only downfall is that it leaves off with a MAJOR cliffhanger.
