Gr 9 Up—The sequel to No Love Allowed follows Nathan and Preston as they take the European summer vacation meant for Nathan and his cousin, Caleb. While Caleb and Didi spend their summer in Dodge Cove, Nathan plans to distract Preston from his busy swimming schedule while also using the trip as an opportunity to confess his true feelings for him. Reluctantly, Preston joins Nathan on the extravagant trip but almost immediately dashes Nathan's hopes and completely ignores his not-so-subtle romantic messages. Convinced that his feelings are unrequited, Nathan becomes withdrawn and considers returning home to pursue his own career goals. However, his twin sister, Natasha, suddenly arrives in Greece to give the protagonist the support he needs to follow through with his decision. Readers will need some familiarity with the first book to fully understand the characters and the plot. Unlike its predecessor, this title exists solely in the jet-setting world of ultrarich teenagers whose worries center primarily on their love interests. Preston's anxiety about making the Olympic swim team and Nathan's worries about pulling off the party of the year for Dodge Cove's social elite are some of the characters' concerns. Teens interested in LGBTQ romances may overlook the wealth-filled setting in favor of the characters' internal struggles. VERDICT Purchase where the previous volume is popular.—Lynn Rashid, Marriotts Ridge High School, Marriottsville, MD
"No Holding Back is an intriguing novel featuring diverse characters and romance built not only on attraction but also lifelong friendship and support." ― VOYA
No Love Allowed:
" Evangelista takes a familiar story of young love and makes it fresh." ―VOYA
"Given the growing awareness towards understanding the stigmas, issues and concerns surrounding mental illness, I find it refreshing that this book doesn’t preach about what to do or how to be – it just tells a story of two people who fall in love and who just also happen to struggle with issues that deserve a place to be talked about." -Whatsageek.com
“Wow. I loved this. LOVED it. Kate used a deft touch, getting Didi just right. I’m looking forward more in this series because all the main players deserve their own stories. Read this book. You will NOT be disappointed.” - Christine Ashworth, Swoon Reader
“It’s like a modern fairy tale.” - Camelle, Swoon Reader
“The romance was incredible. There was also a great set of secondary characters. Nathan was my favorite. And I'm so thrilled that he's going to get his own story too. I can't wait for it. The perfect YA contemporary romance for me. It had humor, romance, awesome characters and great writing. Pretty much everything I want in a book.” - Stephanie (Bookfever)

I honestly wasn't sure what to think about his book, I've read the first book and I really liked it. This book is about Nathan and Preston flying to Europe to get Preston's mind off of swimming and for Nathan to get a chance to confess his love for Preston. The writing in this book to me wasn't as strong as in the first one. I wasn't that into the plot and the story was more unrealistic to me. I didn't enjoy how the point of view would just change whenever it liked and didn't have a pattern to it. Don't get me wrong I do love reading in the different point of views, but the way this book was written I didn't enjoy it. I personally enjoyed the first book way more than this one and wasn't able to get into this one. I still love Didi's and Caleb's relationship though when they were mentioned. Preston and Nathan's relationship didn't have the same effect on me, just because Preston was so oblivious to what was going on while Nathan was too scared to do anything until he took the pot brownie. After that, everything changed although I feel the point leading up to the ending wasn't enjoyable and there's was nothing building up towards the ending.
Actual Rating: 3.5 stars
No Holding Back is the sequel and companion novel to No Love Allowed, which was a such cute read. No Holding Back is a fun follow-up!
All Preston wants to do is swim and make it to the Olympics. After trying out for an exclusive swimming club, he’s restless to find out if he made it in or not. To try to get Preston’s mind off of the results, Nathan takes him away to Europe for a month. While there, Nathan will be remotely planning the luncheon of the year back in Dodge Cove as well as trying to admit to his best friend that he is in love with him.
I really loved Caleb’s cousins, Nathan and Natasha, in No Love Allowed, so I was excited to have this book focus on Nathan. Nathan and Preston have been best friends since they were kids, but Nathan wants something more. He’s in love with Preston, and everyone knows it but Preston. While away in Europe, Nathan plans to tell Preston his true feelings.
Preston and Nathan’s friendship was so supportive and sweet, which made them great as a couple. There were definitely difficulties that they faced while figuring out their relationship, but their love for each other did prevail.
I really enjoyed the European backdrop. The adventures they had in all these different countries definitely made me a little bit jealous! This made such a fun addition to the story. Really my only problem was with the third person POVs, which were awkward at times.
Overall, No Holding Back is another cute, summer read! You do not need to read No Love Allowed to understand and enjoy the book.
*This ARC was provided to me by the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.*
Nathan has always been there for his best friend, Preston. He encouraged him and pushed Preston to fulfill his dreams, and he has been there every step of the way. But it isn't quite enough. Everyone knows Nathan is in love with Preston, and Nathan wants to tell him, but he is more afraid of losing his best friend if he confesses. So what does he do? He suggests he and Preston go on a European vacation so that Preston can get his mind off of his tryout.
Preston wants to get into a premier swimming club in Colorado. His tryout went well, but he won't get the decision for about a month. The wait is driving him crazy. He takes Nathan up on his offer of a European vacation, and things start to change. He is starting to notice things about his best friend that he never noticed before.
Will they be able to cross that line? Or will their friendship fall to pieces? You have to read to find out.
This story was sweet, and I love a good friends to lovers book. If you are looking for heat, this book isn't it, but if you want a story that is well written and full of fluff, then this is the story for you. I love the banter between Nathan and Preston, and kept hoping that they would finally stop dancing and just jump. 4 stars.
This was such a good MM romance, and Nathan and Preston were just so good together.
I really like Nathan and Preston, even though they both hesitated to become more than friends. It was obvious how much they cared for each other, and how much they each cared for their respective families, and they both just had such big hearts.
The storyline in this was pretty good, even though Preston and Nathan’s relationships had plenty of bumps in the road! I really liked the way these two were when they were together, and I was desperate for them to really make a go of things. I also loved the way we got little snippets about Caleb and Didi (from ‘No Love Allowed’) during the course of the story.
The romance in this was really good, and these two really knew how to make a situation steamy without there being anything graphic. I mean wow these two were hot!
The ending to this was really good, and I was so happy with the way things ended. I really want more of these stories now! Natasha and Jackson next please ;)
Overall; great MM romance,
