Solid steel heavy gauge. These things are "rated" for 600lbs, and I would say the steel alone probably could support it. But don't plan on really hanging that much weight. I probably have around 30lbs on one, and there is no sign of it sagging or doing anything bad.
Hangers are dirt cheap for them. You can hang whatever you want, and organize it the way you want.
Comes with "peg strappers" and some screws. I am not overly impressed with the pegstrappers, but they do what they say they do. They keep the hooks from pulling out.
Value. Really this is the biggest thing. I got 5 of these rails for about $55 shipped. I'm out of stuff to hang up.
To hang these up side by side, you will almost need to put some drywall anchors in rather than putting it into a stud. The reason being these measure 48" long, and that is only enough space for 3 screws obviously. They state that you need 4 screws minimum to support the weight rating. Well if you hang them dead center at 48" you can't butt them up. If you off center it a little bit by 1" you could hang two up side by side, but that's it. So I had several drywall hangers. Weight isn't a huge concern for me, so keep this in mind. I am NOT trying to hold up 600lbs.
Shipping cost is a bit of a bummer for these, but I believe they are being honest as to the true cost.
*EDIT* One thing to point out, I'm sure that the pegs that you stick in this thing will fail LONG before this rail will, and I'm not really knocking it. I just dont think its perfect. For this thing to be perfect in my opinion it needs to have a couple more rows of holes in there, and it could fit more stuff. My critique about the 48" rail on 16" spacing is minor, and not sure how to fix that.
Great system for garage organization. Takes minutes in install, just attach to a stud. Two 4 foot sections.
Mine came with stud screws for attachment.
Buy your peg board hooks separately, several to choose from. Not expensive at all.
My shovels, rakes, brooms etc. hang very sturdy with no problems.
