Ten year-old Toby was no where to be found when his mother awoke. At first she thought, her estranged husband may have taken him early but when he arrives a few minute later, they both begin a frantic search that winds up bringing the police into things. Inspector West has been assigned by his superior, Chief Inspector Rankin, to look into matters. Turns out Toby was with his Great-Grandfather until some fiends sent him to the afterlife. No-one knows what happened to Toby. Does his successful retrieval lie within the family's past? Or will his mother and father have another funeral to attend?
This story has many twists and turns. I love how the author reveals the many levels of the family drama in dribbles like it would be in real life. I also love how the various viewpoints are seen by the reader.
Warning: This story is for Mature Audiences due to Violence, Sexual Situations, Drugs, and Adult Language.
Disclaimer: I was provided this book through Reading Deals Review Club in exchange for my honest opinion.
A relatively good book. A little boy disappears. Was he abducted or has he wandered away? The police are called in and there is some suspense. The plot is intriguing, but considering the story is about a missing child, it was just not exciting. The parents seem somewhat insulated from what is happening. Their child is gone. Missing. And yet they continue in their day to day lives. Do they have to be hysterical? No, but a little more serious involvement would have held the reader's interest. I really wanted to give this book 5 stars, but could not.
I'm going to find another book or two from this author and see if this is his normal style.I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so that I could write an honest review.
