The book...Hollow is amazing. Book 12 of the Out of the Box series and like book 22 of the whole Sienna "Box" series. This book is action filled with wit, death defying events, lovely settings, extremely strong characterizations and something of a major eyeopener at the ending. Crane has the imagination of Hannibal Lector and some of the ways his main characters are punished by the bad guys defies imagination and not the least of which are the people in Sienna's head! The thing about Crane is he likely has an abundance more of creepy and extravagant punishments for his lead characters and their foes as well. Bravo for him.
This was an enjoyable read. I'm not sure why but I was totally aware of allusions to other books in the two series about Sienna and I wonder if new readers will be left wanting by not having experienced those other books. They surely will miss some of the back story which makes Crane's characterizations so rich and fulfilling.
Hollow is filled with action and miraculous powers of each of the four main characters here. The book was written with two story lines featuring Sienna and her brother, Reed with chapters almost alternating between the two story lines. It was well worth the time put into it.
Liked seeing Jamal, Augustas' brother from Atlanta, assigned a case with Sienna pursuing after arch enemy Sims and finally learning the identity of ArcheGrey1819. Reed is maturing in his gift and it was pleasant to see that his assignment this time didn't include Augustas, whom had his own case to solve. This book was a little different for me, in that the action scenes were good, as usual, but left me a little meh. Could also be it took me months to read in which I may have forgotten how the adventures played out. My bad.
Appreciated the reveal, in the final chapter, about Sienna and the agency.
Off to read book #13. Still recommend this series of books about Sienna, metahuman extraordinaire.
I'm a huge RJC fan, all of his series, but this is my fave. Love the continuing storyline with all the characters, some questions answered, others left open for future books. A definite must read.
