If you're familiar with my trim&TERRIFIC™ cookbook series, you know I strive to include recipes that are delicious, healthy and easy to prepare. Recently, when I was sitting on a plane, the gentleman next to me said, "You should write a book for people at any stage in life ready to begin cooking." I believe I've satisfied that request with the simple, practical and quick recipes found in KITCHEN 101: Secrets to Cooking Confidence. Whether you're off to college, your first apartment, getting married, having a family, single or just plain busy, KITCHEN 101 will help guide you through the kitchen with practical recipes as well as the basic tools and tips you need to cook healthier. My philosophy in this book was to include recipes that are "the easiest of easy" and use the least amount of ingredients to give the recipe the most flavor. 
 
I listened to each and every one of your requests when building the book, including your favorite shortcuts, cooking methods and recipe requests.   In the last hour, I added a Crock Pot Convenience Cooking Chapter, as I've learned slow cooker cooking is a favorite preparation method for many as you can cook without even being home! I also added a Crock Pot symbol to help identify crock pot recipes throughout the book.  Also, since rotisserie chicken is such a time saver, there is a chapter completely dedicated to using rotisserie chicken called Rapid Rotisserie Chicken Recipes. Start Simple and Fix It Fast are great resources for that last minute meal you desperately need after you've had an overwhelming day. I know many of you like menus as a guide to help put together a well-rounded meal so the Ready-Made Menus Chapter includes a variety of menus whether you are having a sports get-together or want to impress your guests. Building on Basics teaches you how to prepare and add on to your favorite "fast food pick-ups" (burgers, tacos, pizza and potatoes). And, no cookbook would be complete without a Sweet Temptations section which is entirely devoted to satisfying your sweet tooth.  Finally, most importantly, Cooking Basics is the reference section every cook needs with information from pantry stocking to pan sizes. In true Holly Clegg Style, her newest KITCHEN 101 delivers...and then some!

The perfect title for a first timer, with plenty of kitchen helps and tips, but also for the experienced cook as well.

Holly offers up 150 new recipes that are healthy, with a great variety of ingredients to tempt any palate, but most importantly super easy to prepare. At this "season of my life" these are my main qualifications for the kind of cooking I am willing to do. (Empty Nester Syndrome - and Loving It!)

I made the EASY ROAST out of the "Crock Pot Convenience" section the other night and it was a huge hit! Great flavors, and oh so tender....it gets a 5-star-rating in my recipe "keeper" file.

Next, I'm making the SWEET POTATO CHILI (out of same section) which has a hot/sweet combo going on that I so adore.

This is my new "go-to-cookbook" for all the brides in my life - in fact I have a wedding this weekend which I'm slipping a copy into the gift as we speak!

Can't wait to try offerings from all her chapters, so check back as I'll be updating this review with the results of other recipes I prepare.

Go Holly - and thanks for keep it "trim&TERRIFIC" !

Tonight I made the smothered chicken. So simple, but so delicious! I will owe Holly big for my cooking skills one day. Going on 4 years that I've been cooking from her books! As a medical student, most of my time is spent sitting at a desk studying, so I'm always looking for ways to cut calories, while still eating all the required nutrients (and more importantly, enjoy eating it!) Most healthy recipes require you to buy some obscure, expensive ingredient. Holly's recipes are normal, everyday ingredients, and I can't express how thankful I am to have them to use as guidance. I feel like there is a great need for people to be enlightened about better eating habits. It is never too late to learn! I hope to somehow incorporate nutritional education into my medical practice, no matter what speciality I end up in. Thank you, Holly, for your efforts to teach people like me. Your efforts reach further than you probably realize!

First of all, let me say how pretty this cookbook is! With a picture for every recipe, I can't help but be enticed to make them all. So far I have made the Philly Cheese Steak, Beer Bread and Ooey Gooey Bars....and they were SO GOOD! Can't believe that they are healthy, and with the nutrition facts on each recipe it is helpful for calorie and fat count, and diabetic exchanges...even my husband commented on how good the meal was...and best of all it was super easy to put together. Holly Clegg gives Menus and tips throughout to help even the most novice of cooks. Can't wait to dive into it even more!

There's just something about cooler weather that makes one's thoughts turn to comfort food and fun times shared in the kitchen.

This delightful cookbook offers simple and healthy recipes for the novice or expert cook. It also features basic tools and tips every cook needs to know to manage a working kitchen with confidence.

There are more than 150 delicious recipes and most are accompanied by a beautiful color photograph of the end results. In addition each recipes includes diabetic and nutritional information. The author also notes if the recipe freezes well, can be made in a crock pot and you can tell at a glance if the dish is vegetarian.

Kitchen 101 is loaded with tips concerning short-cuts and options on preparing various dishes. There is a reference chapter that helps with cooking fundamentals like what to stock in your food pantry and the proper way to set a table.

Geared toward making life easier in the kitchen, the author included a chapter on using rotisserie chicken called `Rapid Rotisserie Chicken Recipes.' Holly Clegg's Kitchen 101 cookbook is excellent. It's perfect for those starting out as the first few pages cover how to set a table, what kitchen essentials you should have (both cookware and food), and also contains a dictionary of culinary terms and herbs.

The cookbook contains 6 recipe sections; from simple starters to sweet desserts. I especially appreciated the chapter that contains nothing but crock pot recipes. All of the recipes are in color and very easy to follow, with large text and simple instruction. There is also nutritional information for the recipes. Additionally, each recipe has a helpful tip associated with it.

I started by trying the crock-pot sweet potato chili recipe and not only was it was easy to make, but also delicious and filling. I can't wait to try more recipes.

All in all...a great cookbook, that's geared to those just starting out.
