Holly Haines tackles some tough situations in Holly’s Wishes, and you’ll soon find yourself rooting for her and Ben to get together, for Jared to take a hike, and for Ben’s girlfriend to get exactly what she deserves. With so many hurdles to overcome, will Holly and Ben find a way?
The only way for you to find out is to read the book. I’d like to say more, but I’d hate to spoil the story. But it’s a fun read, with some cool secondary characters, plus, we get to spend some time with a few old favorites from Ava’s Wishes.
I was provided an Advance Reading Copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review.
The Whispered Wishes series continues with the middle sister, Holly, and concentrates on her journey to find love. Stuck in a fractured relationship where she realises that she and her live in boyfriend, Jarred, do not share the same goals, Holly becomes more discontented after she meets up with an old high school crush at her sisters wedding. Seeing Ben again after many years opens Holly’s eyes to her feelings and it soon becomes clear that she is more in love with the idea of Jarred than the man himself. Ben is not available, nor is Holly, but the chemistry between them is obvious, and spending time together stirs up questions for both about where their lives are headed.
Karen Pokras is one of only a few authors I have read that has dipped her toe into more than one genre, and after a shaky start with Ava’s Wishes (Whispered Wishes #1) I feel she is really getting into her groove in the world of writing for adults. She has created a family that feels real and relatable to her readers. Though this instalment is mainly about Holly, we still view snippets from both Ava’s and Tessa’s lives and enjoy the banter shared by the sisters when they are together.
This is an easy to read series that is perfect for the poolside or cosying up in front of the fire.
Copy gifted by the author, thank you.
I would give this second book in the Wishes series 4.5 stars. Holly and Ben are both in relationships when they reconnect at her sister Ava's wedding. First it was wonderful to catch up again with Ava and Max and I enjoyed spending time again with people we met in Ava's Wishes.
For Holly and Ben the question is whether Fate is throwing them together to give them a second chance or cruelly showing them what could have been? Some times the path to happiness is not an easy road and that is true in this book. When do you give up on a relationship that you've invested years in and take a chance on a possibility?
I really enjoyed meeting Holly's friends and work colleagues and hope we get to see more of them in the future. The story made me laugh and sometimes it made me clench my jaw in frustration. This is a clean love story and does not contain descriptive love scenes. The only thing I would have preferred (and it's a personal preference) would have been having the story told from multiple POV's. I wanted to know more of what Ben was thinking and feeling and on occasion it left me wondering why he did some of the things he did.
Holly's Wishes is an excellent example of a good series book. The focus is on Holly's story and the main story line is wrapped up nicely in the end; however, we still see details of both Ava and Tess sprinkled throughout which ties all the books together nicely in the Whispered Wishes series. Ms. Pokras showed with this book as well as Ava's Wishes that she is a natural at writing this genre. Her characters are well-developed and the plot lines are engaging.
If you like sweet romantic chick-lit/women's fiction, you will enjoy Holly's Wishes and the Whispered Wishes series.
