This book is pretty much a carbon copy of the initial one I read, except just change the crimes and a few minor details. The quips between Kate and her bizarre friends were amusing the first time. In this book they were repetitive and boring.
Kate, the main character, has an annoying lack of self-confidence, and she is obsessed with her hair and clothing. And there is the repetitive, annoying push-pull romance angle.
Even without the cliffhanger ending, I'd say no thanks to more of this author's books.
This one starts with LAPD Detective Kate Sexton and Hudson McKenzie in a chance meet.
Hud is an ex US Navy SEAL. He travels all over the world on missions for his company. Kate and he had a brief fling. Hud advised Kate that as soon as she figured out whether she and her boyfriend Jack Bautista still had a relationship then he wouldn't be seeing her.
Detective Kate Sexton is an LAPD Robbery Homicide Detective and works for Section One. Section One is a specialized unit that handled the department's most difficult and high profile homicides. Kate and her K-9 partner Bernie have found a home in Section One.
Pearl Kramer is Kate's sometimes partner and a guy who retired from the LAPD and now works for Section One on a part time basis. Pearl is a man Kate has the utmost respect for and he's a damned good cop with years of know how.
Right now she and Hud are interrupted by a call from Pearl about another Hollywood murder. This one involves Olivia Ashcroft a very popular TV personality. Seems she came home at around 11 PM to find both her husband and her stepdaughter dead.
So begins another damned fine read by Kelly.
This one has Kate, Bernie, Pearl, Natalie, Mo, Nana, Olivia Ashcroft, Olivia's dead husband Marty Ashcroft, her dead husband's brother Victor Ashcroft, a pedophile, a pair of robbers, Ashcroft's best friend Brandi Hart, Ashcroft's sister in law, Detectives Alex Hardy and Christine Belfont also of the Unit , a Chris who turns into a pretty good friend to Kate, ME Brie Henner, Kate's half sister Lindsay, Lindsay's problems, Kate's commander Lt. Oz, crime analyst Selfie Rogers, the unit secretary Molly Wingate, a woman with a mission, a mission that includes murder, murder, attempted murder and Kate Sexton doing her best to figure it all out and make sure justice prevails.
Five Stars and I sure hoped Pearce Landon would be Kate's love interest. Oh well. Hud is a hunk. LOL
with her two friends who are really characters! But in spite of that she is a good detective. If you like
some humor in your books, this is the one!
I'm wondering if the author is using their storyline as comic relief but really they detract from the book. I'm particularly not fond of them always making cracks that are insulting about Kate's sex life, really not amusing anymore. I would have liked to see Chris's life expand a bit more. Not fond of Hud either. Liked the characters in the Section one. I'm hoping Kate gets back on track as the tough police officer she is.
