Warning to Kindle users, however. It seems that the editing on the Kindle version fell through the cracks, so to speak, about 80% or 90% of the way through the book. All of a sudden all of the quotation marks disappear! It made the last part of the book a bit of a challenge to read. :-)
I loved this book. Tina Bender was the perfect blend of sassy and vulnerable as she unraveled the mystery. Some parts were a bit predictable, some twists came out of nowhere, and I laughed out loud several times at her comments and the descriptions the author provided about Tina's coworkers and family (especially Aunt Sue!). This is not a book that will tax your mental acuity, and for that reason I liked it even more.
The plot of the story, a victim of Tina's column wanting her dead, develops and plays out well as does the conflicting feelings of romance between Cal and Tina. The endings were not easily predictable and the humorous was great throughout. It wasn't ROTFLMAO funny, but I had a perpetual grin while reading the book, and I liked that.
This was a book I downloaded quite a while ago and finally got around to reading it. I am glad I did it!
Tina Bender works for The Informer as a gossip columnist, hated by most Hollywood celebrities. Was it any wonder that one day while she's about to break one of Hollywood's biggest scandals, she gets a message up on her laptop telling her if she prints one more story about them, it will be the last story she ever writes. Well, alright! We've got ourselves some mystery here.
Quite naturally, her boss, Felix, who runs the paper wasn't going to have his top spill-the-dirt-on-every-Hollywood-celebrity-she-can, be caught up with death threats so he hires a security detail to follow the tell-all queen everywhere, which she absolutely loathed.
Add to all that, her two funny aunties, Sue and Millie. These two over 80-yr. olds had me laughing so hard, I couldn't see the screen on the Kindle. They do what typical senior citizens do--whatever the hell they want and don't give a damn. My kind of ladies. So they are concerned about Tina's well-being. Also, Tina has a secret admirer who emails her every night with cute jokes and funny sayings to get her through her night.
Like I said, this book had a little bit of everything twisted in here, and it was really, really good! I so enjoyed reading this. The characters are lovable and the story line is one that will definitely keep you turning the pages. I'm definitely reading the rest of the series. Great fun read! A reader's best dream come true. Way to start off my 2014 reading year!
It was a more light-hearted, humor-filled, suspense/romance book without detailed death scenes and no sex scenes. I loved the quirky characters especially Aunt Sue, Aunt Millie, and Tina Bender (with her purple hair, pink Honda motorcycle, and Strawberry Shortcake purse). This book made me laugh out loud several times. No it wasn't perfect... the bad guy had an over-the-top motive and the romance was predictable (as it is with all other romance novels). I would recommend this book to those looking for a quick read suspense/romance book that will make you laugh but is not too mentally taxing. I read this book on the Kindle and didn't notice any formating errors like at least one other reviewer talked about... then again maybe I was too involved in the story to notice!
Good job to Gemma Halliday... I love your sense of humor and look forward to reading other books of yours.

I tried to give this book a chance. The author's writing style just couldn't keep my interest I and was hoping it was a real page-turner.
