He is also co-author of Old Testament Survey 2d edition (B & H) along with another of his doctoral professors, Paul House. Dr. Mitchell works with the SWBTS Dead Sea Scrolls project and has edited fragment FrgDSSDeut4 (Deuteronomy 12:11-14). He is currently researching a commentary on1-2 Kings in the Kerux series by Kregel geared toward expositors. Dr. Mitchell also directs an archaeological project in Israel: the Tel Gezer Regional Survey and is working on publication of the results. Dr. Mitchell has served as youth minister to two churches for seven years, as a business administrator for a discipleship ministry, and has frequently taught Bible studies in churches over the last 25 years. Very nicely presented artistic renditions of the ancient cities as they probably appeared at their apex as well as many photographs of their present state are most interesting. Theological terms and religious practises of the bible civilizations are explained and the illustrations are very well done and informative.
A true encyclopedia of information for almost anything related to what you read in God's Word!
The book is a decent 'size', but is thick and heavy. When I purchased it, I sat and admired it page by page for awhile. I am very glad I picked it up. When I come across something I am not familiar with, I pull it out, look it up and there it is.
I keep it close by.
This dictionary is very comprehensive. It covers every word I have looked for.
The charts and time-lines are an unexpected bonus.
The binding is excellent. That's important when dealing with a large book.
If you are looking for a Bible Dictionary that covers the most words and has the most information in general, this is probably the one!
