My Grandson has been flying some of my drones for a few years and wanted to move into racing. I thought this would be the perfect choice and I think I was right after flying it for the past few days. This racer will tune up your skills and let you go from very basic to high performance flying by just sliding a wheel switch. This comes with 2 batteries and 2 extra sets of propellers. As I mention in my video if you need to replace one make sure it matches exactly as they are different on the right and left sides. It can be flown in the house by turning the switch to low performance. Then take it into an open area, slide the switch to performance and cruise the sky at nearly 30mph. It has very quiet motors compared to some others I have flown. One other feature that is really helpful is that when the battery starts to run low your Controller will start to beep along with the lights flashing on the racer. I hope this review and my video will help with your decision

The Holy Stone HS150 "Bolt Bee" is an excellent introduction into drone racing at a fabulous price point. The hardest beginner milestone in flying a racing drone is learning how to fly line-of-sight (LOS) without an altitude hold function - flying a drone in three dimensions (plus orientation) looks easy, but is incredibly difficult! I cannot count how many times I damaged my $350 racing drone just learning the basic mechanics of drone flight. The "Bolt Bee" is perfectly suited to this task at one-seventh the price.
One of the accessories of the drone that I was happy to see most was propeller guards for flying the drone safely indoors. With the drone speed set to the lowest setting and the propeller guards installed, the drone is perfect for flying safely indoors when the weather outside is not perfect for flying.
The controller that is packaged with the drone is a WiFi-enabled controller with a standard "Mode 2" racing configuration - this means the "throttle" and "yaw" is on the left stick, and the "pitch" and "roll" is on the right stick. The drone itself has stability control algorithms running which prevent the drone from rolling or pitching too far in one direction, so the only way to perform "flips" is via the "flip" buttons on the controller. The maximum throttle speed is also adjustable via a dial on the controller; this is best for altering performance for use indoors or outdoors.
Speaking of, this drone has a wide range of speed. On minimum speed the drone is quite tame, perfect for controlled flight indoors. On maximum speed, the drone is extremely fast for having brushed motors - it'll blow your hair back! The difference in the speeds appears to be the maximum pitch and yaw allowed by the stability algorithms (which controls the maximum directional velocity); at lowest and highest speeds, the throttle itself (the speed that the props spin) still reacts very similarly.
The HS150 is built pretty solid and the propellers are relatively flexible - this makes the drone incredibly "crash-resistant" on grassy surfaces (trust me, you want this in a beginner racing drone!). I don't recommend flying the drone on paved surfaces, crashing onto a paved surface can crack plastic and/or bend propeller axles (if this happens, a set of pliers can usually bend them back if it's not too bad). The only "gotcha" is the battery - even when the battery was pushed in all the way and "secured" via the battery clip, a good crash that resulted in the drone rolling on the ground flung the battery out of the drone. Definitely check the drone after a crash and make sure you have the battery!
Speaking of battery, the provided controller has built-in telemetry that signals/beeps when the drone battery is running low, and also beeps a different pattern when the handheld controller is running low on power. In my testing, the controller begins beeping when approximately half the drone battery has been used up. The total continuous flight time is fairly consistent regardless of the speed (on average 6 minutes when pushing the drone hard), though there is slightly more flight time at the lowest speed setting (probably because I couldn't push the drone as hard). The battery takes about 90 minutes to fully charge, and two batteries come with the drone itself. The only real negative here is that every Holy Stone drone I own has a different battery connector and a different battery charger, so there's no way to share batteries between drones - an investment in one battery type does not translate to any other drones. Even after dozens of drone battery cycles I still have not had to change batteries on the controller - which is good, since it takes 6 AA batteries.
Finally, when I found out that the drone didn't have a sounder (a device that beeps so you can find it in tall grass) I was very disappointed. However, I was quickly satisfied by the effectiveness of the coloring on the drone itself. This drone isn't black - which is really difficult to find in tall grass - it's YELLOW; the drone sticks out like a gloriously sore thumb in tall grass. Since you're flying LOS you already have a good idea where the drone landed, and the yellow markings help you find the drone. Unfortunately that doesn't help find the battery if it flies out during a crash, but I'll take what I can get.
All in all, I recommend this drone as a first drone for anyone interested in getting into racing drones. This drone is an excellent way to get familiar with the basics of quadcopter flight and line-of-sight flying at a fraction of the cost of a full-featured FPV racing drone (and much easier/inexpensive to repair!). This would also be incredibly fun to fly with others who own the same drone, without having to worry as much about interference between drones.
I have several Holy Stone Products, and I have to admit, this one is my favorite! First of all, the packaging is freaking awesome, and doubles as an excellent way to store it Second, you literally take it out of the box, put batteries in your TX, load your MODULAR battery, and your flying. Third, its a raw flight experience. The other drones with altitude hold are awesome for learning on and for video. This guy is awesome if you want a good challenge and want to fly fast! Video review posted as well. Check it out! If you're looking for an adventure, don't think twice! This thing rocks!

(I initially gave this 4/5 stars. After working with Holy Stone tech support, I'm raising it to 5/5. They go far beyond what I expected for a toy of this cost!)
I got this to beat my work mate at our office drone races (one of the perks of working the super early shift). At fast mode, I'm sure I'll eventually be able to do just that!
But first, I have to stop crashing it.
The drone is super tough (which, see above, is a good thing!). The body has survived more than a few high-speed impacts. The propellers tend to pop off on hard crashes (even with the prop guards on), but are easy to put back. The drone comes with spare blades and a tool to pop old ones off, but I haven't broken or bent one yet, which is surprising given how hard I've bonked in to some of the office obstacles.
The drone has five speed settings: slow, fun, crash, crash hard, and AHH!!! LOOK OUT! The first one is good if you're learning how to control a drone (me), but will feel a bit slow and unresponsive if you're an advanced pilot. But for me, it gives the chance to build up skills and muscle memory. I can do our office obstacle course fairly easily on the low setting. The second is good if you're a more experienced pilot. The third is what I hope to aspire to some day, giving the drone a large range of motion and speed. Darting, I'd call it. The last two are way too much for an office setting, but are great in a warehouse or outdoor area! OMG this thing can really move! It's a good thing it's brightly colored and has piercing blue eyes, because at high setting it can become a tiny dot in the distance really fast.
The controller is rubberized, so it's easy to grip and feels far better than a $50-60 drone controller should. The drone comes with two modular batteries which slot into the back, so you don't have to deal with cords dangling. They last a good 6-10 minutes, depending on your flying style. The charger has an extended cord which is a cool feature (most are just simple USB sticks).
Overall, I think this is an excellent beginner drone that can bridge the gap between the company's entry level HS-170, and higher end racers. It's super tough and, for the price, you get a drone that can take you from beginner to advanced pilot. And probably survive the whole journey!
