Update: Was contacted by VicTsing customer support who were very nice and offered to send a new pump. The replacement arrived quickly and has been working flawlessly for the last couple of weeks. It adjusts a lot more smoothly than the first, and once set the flow rate stays where I want it. Nice to see a company make so much effort to get a working product to their customers.
The tank had completely crashed by the time I got home. Enough water had evaporated that no water was going through the intake. I had siliconed the auxiliary bottom hole that prevented the tank from running dry.
I bought this pump and it works great!!! It is a little larger than the OEM Fluval Spec pump. You have to place the water intake directly facing a wall. But what I love about this pump is that it doesn’t matter. The intake on the pump goes to the bottom of the pump! So it’s great! Water can flow in from the bottom. Not just the side, I use this pump on high...but I do have the flow reduced with a DIY spray bar, plus the polishing pads I use also reduce flow. Also have a hole punched in the outflow tube to circulate water around the heater, further reducing flow. My betta is very content! And so am I!
Somebody said this pump is loud. The just simply didn’t properly install it down the Spec’s pump section. If it’s at an angle, if it’s touching the glass, if you don’t use the suction cups to firmly attach it to the bottom - it’ll rattle. The OEM Fluval pump is the same way. I don’t hear the pump at all. I only hear the bubbles from the air stone.
It includes outflow tube adapters - NICE! And another thing I think makes it superior to the Fluval Spec’s OEM pump is the flow rate dial. It’s firm! Like almost hard to turn with your fingers. Honestly at first I thought I had a defective product, but then it turned. This is actually really great because in the Fluval pump the flow rate switch is so loose! You can put it on high or low but no matter what, when you’re positioning the pump in the pump chamber it’s always goig to wiggle over to the middle. This drove me crazy! No matter how careful I was it always readjusted itself on the way down. I ended up sticking a piece of silicone in the gap to hold the switch firmly in place.
Someone said their pump only lasted a few months....you know for $9 I’m just going to go ahead and order a few more of these. Just to have on hand. We’ll see how long mine lasts but I have a feeling it’s going to survive well past
This pump is a quick and inexpensive way to replace the pump I your Spec. I will definitely be buying a 2nd unit to have on hand in case this one dies.
Years ago I bought a PetSafe Drinkwell Fountain for my cats. They love it, I love it. We're all happy. But then the pump went out, and I was looking at buying a replacement fountain and stumbled across this fantastic water pump. I thought I would give it a try before spending so much cash on all the parts of the PetSafe Fountain I didn't need (I have it, I only needed the pump).
Anyway, I read the reviews and saw that someone else had success with it in a similar situation and decided to go for it.
This pump is GREAT for my PetSafe Drinkwell Fountain.
If you are using it as I am in a PetSafe Drinkwell Fountain, you cannot adjust the speed once you have it in place without taking the Fountain apart. That said, I have mine set on low and it's exactly perfect for my cats' water. (I never really toggled for speed/flow before, either, when the toggle was easily accessible, so if you like to change the water flow, this may not be your solution).
When you need to clean the fountain, there is no disconnect in the cord, so you have to totally unplug it. Shrug. Not an issue for me at all.
It is quiet. I'd say about the same as the pump that came with the Drinkwell, but it may be slightly louder. I don't really care about this as I keep it in the utility room and can't hear it unless I am in there doing laundry or checking cat kibble / water levels.
I am ordering another because when my Aerogarden pump gives out, this will be a perfect cheap hack.
This is a great little pump, and I can't praise it highly enough. If you think you might want it, buy it.
