8-year-old Kevin McAllister is accidentally left behind when his family takes off for a vacation in France over the holiday season. Once he realizes they've left him home by himself, Kevin learns to fend for himself, and eventually has to protect his house against bumbling burglars Harry and Marv, who are planning to rob every house in Kevin's suburban Chicago neighborhood. Kevin's mother Kate is frantic when she realizes that she and the family have unintentionally left Kevin behind in Chicago, and she tries to make it back to Chicago as fast as she can, getting help from a polka band leader named Gus Polins.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
The McAllister family go on a holiday to Florida. Kevin McAllister gets separated from his family, and manages to get himself onto a plane to New York instead. There, he checks into the best hotel with his father's credit card, and sets out to enjoy himself. Unfortunately, the burglars he had foiled before were in New York after being released from jail, and had plans to rob the biggest toyshop in New York on Christmas Eve. Kevin discovers their plan, and sets out to foil their plots again, while the burglars set out to finish off what they had not done before - the killing of the brat Kevin.

A large family prepare to go on holiday for Christmas but don’t realise they’ve left on of their children, Kevin, at home. Kevin looks after the house and realises they’re being targeted by burglars, so sets up the house with lots of nasty surprises the intruders.
Second film has a similar case of losing Kevin at the airport as he boards for New York by mistake. Kevin has just as many adventures as the first film before being reunited with his mum.

Nice to have both films on one DVD should you want to go through both back to back without getting off the sofa!
The quality of the films do not appear to have been remastered so whilst it is perfectly acceptable the quality is showing it's age a bit with these versions of the film.
Saying that, it doesn't detract from a quality family film for any time of the year, especially at Christmas!

In Home Alone 1, Kevin is accidentally left behind in the mad rush to the airport so the family - mum, dad, brothers and sisters not to mention aunt, uncle and cousins - can go to Paris for Christmas. Cue madness that only a child unsupervised can bring plus trying to catch some burglars, Harry and Marv. In Home Alone 2, Kevin makes it to the airport, but boards the wrong flight so he ends up in New York whilst his family are in Florida. Kevin then causes havoc whilst trying to sort some accommodation and trying to catch Harry and Marv, who have broke free from jail and have ended up in New York.
The films are set at Christmas time, but the theme is not Christmas, so these can be enjoyed at any time of the year and is suitable for young kids and big kids alike.

Home Alone 2 has its moments, but gets a little bit sentimental (with the bird woman) towards the end. Plot wise, it's pretty much a mirror of Home Alone 1 (Kevin is alone in New York, rather than at home). It's still a decent film, probably 4 stars, but I wouldn't watch it back-to-back with the first film.
A great value box set.
