Dennis is young and his brother Glen is serving in the war. Dennis wants to be just like his brother. Probably most important in this book is the love Dennis has for his mother. He doesn't have a strong bond with his father mainly because his father is weak and doesn't know how to love and show feelings. I think folks from that era didn't show lots of emotion it was portrayed in this book. You will love this book. Lots of tender feelings
"God knew him, it seemed, and knew Glen, knew his mother—and cared about them all." ~ Dean Hughes, Home and Away you Away
