I'm a little embarrassed by my original positive review, because three months later, it's a whole different story. This toilet brush holder is now covered with rust and is discolored by water deposits. It's too late to return it. I've had several stainless steel toilet brush holders before that NEVER developed rust or showed water stains. Unfortunately, those holders weren't vented like this one, and I ended up with yucky gunk in the bottom as I mentioned in my original post. I'd rather deal with that than buy a new toilet brush holder every three months though. Don't waste your money like I did.
Finally! A vented toilet brush holder! I love the sleek and clean look of a brushed stainless brush holder, but the ones I've had get yucky on the inside because they don't dry. I end up having to stuff a paper towel in the bottom, which stays wet. Then I end up having to dump out the gross paper towel and water. The constant moisture causes my brushes to rust and grow algae too. Ewwww!
Not this brush and holder though. I've used it several times, and the inside dries out within a couple of days. (I run a floor fan in my bathrooms though.) The brush and inside part of the handle are plastic, so no rust issues either. I'm very happy with this attractive and practical product!
Here's two reasons -
1- It's aesthetically pleasing. Personally, I don't care if I see a toilet brush or plunger, yet it does add a touch of class to a guest bath or powder room.
2- Some guests make a mess. They are embarrassed. They don't want to leave things stuck to the side of the bowl. You should provide them solutions in the event something happens. I see so many powder rooms that have nothing but soap and a hand towel. It's horrible to leave a mess and you put the guest in an embarrassing position to have to ask for a brush or plunger.
Is this meant for daily bathroom use? Yes and no. The brush handle is thin and weak. If it breaks, there is no way to salvage it. I don't like buying this twice. It's not the money...it's about keeping the carbon footprint to a minimum for me. No doubt it will break with anything above medium scrubbing pressure. You might want to just have this for decoration/guests and get something tougher and sturdier for the weekly bathroom cleanings.
✫Also, dual ended brushes are a pet peeve because you can only see one end at a time while the other end is getting smashed and misshapen.
✫ In shape, the shader brush is most comparable to the Ecotools one (though its fluffier and less dense than Ecotools). Unlike the mac (#239), Sigma (e55), stila (#5), or even elf shader brushes which are all flat and dense, this one is fluffy and light.
✫ The shader is good for a light wash of all-over color (a loose pigment, perhaps) but it's not great for laying down a deep, rich color.
✫ The dual ended brush features a smudge brush on one end and a blender on the other.
✫ The smudge brush is *really* similar to the one by Elf but it's a teeny bit stiffer. It does a nice job of depositing color on lower lash line/corner of the eye.
✫The blender is my favorite of the 3. In size and shape, it's similar to Mac (#224) and Sigma (E40). The hairs feel a little coarser and stiffer, but it's not too different.
✫The issue with it is that blenders are best used with your fingers a good distance from the ferrel, but that's not really possible here due to the short handle. If it wasn't dual ended and had a longer handle, I'd probably buy it several times over.
It's o.k. for awhile, then it starts to break down. It dents very easily, and I have to be careful when using the scrub brush on the toilet, b/c the handle of the brush starts to bend if used even moderately hard. It will probably last long enough to be kind of worth its cost, but the other one I had lasted for years and years, this one will not. Not a good value.
