Overall I'm happy with the purchase, it didn't take long to get my first batch started. I have a few minor points to mention that could make this a better fit for those of us just starting to get into the hobby.
All in all, I'm pleased with the number of non-standard recipes in the booklet, and I the kit has enough supplies to make a good number of batches- and has basically all the additives needed for most wine styles in reasonable quantities. Since I'm impatient, I will likely order a few more carboys so I can start more batches.
1- I think it's fair to not include a hydrometer in the kit since that's a fairly specialized piece of gear, but since it's a key tool, I'd suggest reviewing both the amazon description and the instructions that come with the kit and mention that you strongly recommend purchasing one. Most new hobbyists will figure this out before they make a purchase, but someone buying this as a gift may not!
2- I hit a little trouble with my first usage- I did not do a good job of mixing in my sugar, so a lot of it settled to the bottom of the carboy- that's when I realized the kit did not come with a long-handled stirring spoon/paddle. I know home brew ohio has these items (I ordered one as soon as I realized I was in trouble!) but it may be a good idea to include a 24" stirrer in the kit, even if it bumps up the price a little. I did a good amount of research ahead of time, but this was the thing I didn't figure out ahead of time.
3- The recipe book/instructions are not all that great- it really is just the recipes themselves, not a step by step how-to (although it may be a good idea to write up a generic step-by-step walkthrough to help out beginners). This really didn't bother me much as I quickly found that there are more than enough resources out on the internet to get this information from. Even listing a web link somewhere in the materials pointing a a few web resources would help- since not every beginner is going to research things ahead of time, at least pointing them in the right direction would be an easy improvement to make.
All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase, but I do recommend that beginners thinking about buying this kit make sure they also buy a hydrometer set that comes with a testing vessel, and a long stirrer. As I mentioned, all you really need to expand your use of the kit is more carboys (and vapor locks- but you can easily find these packaged together).

What you see is all my kit came with! No lid for my bucket, no instructions or recipes, no ingredients to get me started....not even a top or the little burper that goes on the glass jug was in my kit. I'm very disappointed because I was ready to make some wine!

The kit is very nice for the price and it comes with everything you need except for bottles and fruit. Some of the parts are cheaply made but functional.
The instructions are very vague as if someone made them in a rush. Several steps need to be added to the instructions as well as when to add each ingredient.
The book that comes with it is not very useful unless you want to mix fruits and make a particular blend. Other than that there are no futher instructions in the book. Since this is a beginner's kit I would suggest they write the instructions step by step and have someone inexperience go threw the process with them.

The wine yeast was dead in the pack I used. I have so many yeast types in my house for breadmaking and I'm kicking myself for not using one of them because they all seem to respond to warm water forming a "cap" of yeast on the surface of the luke warm water. The "wine yeast" that came with this kit did nothing. I thought maybe because it was a special kind of yeast it didn't need to activate in the same way so I wasted a large batch of our garden grapes only to have absolutely nothing occur in the primary fermenter for going on 4 days now... The recipes are kind of useless given this kit is marketed to first time home wine makers. The directions don't mention how to do much of anything. I had to research online to find answers to so many common questions you think might be answered in a few paragraphs in their otherwise large pamphlet of recipes. I would also have appreciated a cap for the secondary fermenter for when I'm done fermenting the wine... Also, all recipes are in %-age tartaric. It would help tremendously to break that down for the first time brewer to something more easily understood/tested for (like Ph value).
Otherwise, the kit contains most of what you need to get started, but you do need more items than are available in the kit (it is not complete by any means). I'd recommend getting bottles, corks, corker, hydrometer, and wine ph strips to test the acidity (or %-age tartaric?). DEFINITELY get some wine yeast too as it seems the yeast I got in my kit was dead as a doornail!

Ordered this to start making wine at home. It came with everything as advertised, and the yeast is good for another year or two. In addition I bought a second carboy, and a hydrometer, which you'll need to keep track of alcohol content. I currently have my first batch of lavender wine fermenting in the garage.

I wanted to use the kit before leaving a review. As a first time winemaker, the kit was easy enough to use. The recipes provided were not very useful, but there were plenty of resources online to help with that. I would have loved if the kit came with a hydrometer, and a mesh bag instead of a cloth.
However, I did discover I did not get the minisiphon in my kit. Normally, this would only be a 1 star deduction from me, as the rest of the kit was intact, however, I have been looking for a way to contact the company about this mistake so I could potentially get the minisiphon to no avail. Hopefully, I can get my siphon and avoid buying the piece on its on, as that was a pretty enticing piece of the kit.

If you want to start making your own wine, I cannot stress this kit enough. Super easy and simple recipes. This is a great kit for small batches of wine. If you want to make large quantities of homemade wine (1 gallon+) this is not a kit you want to invest in.

This kit is perfect. Came with everything I needed but the fruit to start making wine the same day. So far I have made many batches and purchased bottles and gifted them. So far I have purchased a variety of fresh fruit to make several variations of wine. PERFECT!!
