There is so much heart and expertise shared in this book that even the most inept in the kitchen will be inspired to believe they can really cook and learn do it well. Perry's style is like that teacher that won't settle for anything but his student's success, and his readers are his students. He even gave us homework! And I love how it's designed to teach us to think in ways we maybe never have about food, to actually use the information and recipes he shares and keeps this book interactive for the reader. For anyone who never learned to cook at home, or didn't learn to cook well, I recommed getting a copy.
Fair warning though, it's not your traditional cookbook, it's very different and better. It reads like a combination biography, self help, culinary world expose, and cookbook. And lest I forget, a text book; but not a boring one. It's down to earth, no nonsense practicality is refreshing and I'd recommend it to anyone, from complete novice to well seasoned home chef, as it is so chocked full of information, techniques, tips and great reference information. I find myself reaching for it over and over again as a reference and for the recipes, which are simple, tasty. The recipes are clearly written, easy to understand, with basic techniques a home cook can easily build upon
If you really want to learn what works, and how to cook well, then get this book.
Ultimately, it's about transforming your kitchen from somewhere you nuke a frozen meal to somewhere you makebgood food, good memories, and good time with friends and family.
Perry's passion for food, family, and yes, fun (who knew you could have fun in the kitchen!) really come through in this book.
