This is one of my favorite--maybe my very favorite--Christmas albums. Though von Otter is a classically trained and accomplished singer, the feel of this album is more accessible than her more "classical" works. In addition to the unique and yet still familiar arrangements of Christmas standards, you'll find a few less common songs--such as the Swedish Koppangen that bookends the album.

You want this album (I know you do) and you should add it to your Christmas music library before anything else.

Anne Sofie von Otter is a marvelous singer with a most marvelous voice. I heard her sing Koppangen in Swedish on the radio one Christmas, and vowed to obtain the CD. Took me until the next year until I found it, but it has Koppangen in English as well as Swedish. Listening to it the first time in Swedish really moved me!!

This is a wonderful antidote to the terrible renditions on Christmas music one hears at malls and on television. Anne Sophie von Otter, the Swedish mezzo soprano, has both a wonderful voice, and great taste in selecting Christmas music to feature. She sings in English, Swedish, German and French. Her selections range from standards like "White Christmas" to Swedish folk songs.

Both version of Koppangen (English and Swedish) alone with Bred Dina Vida Vingar will make you want to keep this album forever. The other arrangements, as I call them, do not sound as authentically as they should do for classical fans. Above all, Anne Sofie never sings so personally in this recording. A Strong Buy rating is hereby initiated.

Home for Christmas by Anne Sofie von Otter is my favorite Christmas album, simply put. The Swedish opera star pulls songs from her Swedish roots and blends them on the album with Christmas carols, old and new, in several languages.

Starting and finishing the album is Koppangen, a beautiful song that is currently popular in Sweden. It has become one of my favorite Christmas songs.

Well, I gave this CD another listen this year, and I have to say that my criticism from last year was overly harsh.
I'm still not completely enthralled with it, but it 's nowhere nearly as bad as I said it was. Having said that, I still think that if it were anyone other than Anne Sofie von Otter, I probably wouldn't have kept the CD this long.
